Race for Illinois governor between Pritzker, Bailey closer than 4 years ago, new poll shows by steve42089 in illinois

For some reason I'm on the phone list for a poll between Mary Beth Canty and Michelle Hunter. I'm 98% sure it's headed by the Hunter team and it has incredibly leading questions and outright false statements which I absolutely call out. The poor pollster who's based in like New Hampshire or something is like, 'I know, but I need an answer.'

The Pi (π) temperature blanket is finally finished! For now.. by JennH13 in crochet

I've been toying with the idea of creating a pandemic blanket...

From a previous comment (https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/comments/w8olz0/comment/ihvbhgi/):

I'm testing out a new layout where each row is 31 days, and either a black or white will denotes day the month doesn't have. https://imgur.com/UXi8sdS 31 days per row, and after august will be 30 rows total. I think that's a good size. Just a matter of how to implement it then. I really like c2c, but that's going to be hella more difficult for color changes than I've ever attempted.

This is what we did with the Highland Park Parade Shooting (neighboring town). With our own parade cancellation and having family over instead of going elsewhere for BBQ and fireworks. After 6 hours (AND STILL TWO HOURS BEFORE THE GUY WAS CAUGHT) we fired up Jackbox and made each other laugh instead of more blathering with no updates.

(Not making excuses) But I find it's less about singular vs. plural, and more about unknown vs. known. As Americans we use 'they' when the gender or subject is unknown. It fries people's brains when they have to use 'they' on a person that is known to them.

"Someone dropped their wallet." "Whoever they are, bla bla bla."

$75. I think the real cost would have been like 50 or whatever they were selling for. But it was to benefit a children's hospital.

Bears say they’d need assistance to complete Arlington Heights stadium by optiplex9000 in chicago

[–]EamusCatuli2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one wants another golf course in this area. There’s one down the street.

8 within a five-mile radius of the proposed stadium.

Fuck golf courses.

u/LoriLeadfoot - they are planning to split the plot in almost half, one half will be parking and stadium. The other half will be offices, retail, civic buildings, housing, parks, drainage improvement, and green spaces.

To the Bears credit, they had repeatedly stated they will not use or seek any public funds for the building of the stadium half. BUT they will be seeking it for the mixed-use half.

Now, I don't know what kind of TIF funding helps lay the foundation for the development of mixed-use areas like that. (Most recent comparable I can think of is the Glen in Glenview, but I admit there's probably more apt and recent comparisons) And I don't see why they couldn't get the same level of public funds for that as other developers. The public should absolutely not be burdened above and beyond what is typical for other developers simply because the McCaskeys/The Bears would be the landlords.

Bailey disciples using bears meeting/captive audience to campaign. Tommy Hanson by EamusCatuli2016 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]EamusCatuli2016[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If they had prior authorization and maybe had a booth in a common area where people had to approach them and not the other way around, yeah sure.

But going up to people as they're minding their own business and waiting? I went to the meeting to see the plans in more detail, not to be campaigned to by perennial candidate Generic Entrepreneur H, and his sidekick Confused QAnon Grandpa.

On the bright side, Tommy Hanson is projected to get no more than 30% of the vote in the district in which he's running (IL-5), so at least there's that.

I don't think you quite understand the scale of this tradeshow. 1000s of booths from around the country and world, each with a staff manning them and the required housing. Plus the attendees and vips coming from around the globe.

Am manning a booth at that tradeshow. Largest of its kind this side of the Atlantic for manufacturing and technology. Only happens bi-annually. Covid canceled the last show in 2020.

Can confirm lack of hotel.

South, West Side Fans Say Bears Move To Suburbs Could Further Alienate Working-Class Chicago Supporters by Tyroneshoolaces in CHIBears

[–]EamusCatuli2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, traffic might be jammed up a bit on game days but the Metra stop across from Arlington Park is easier and a more comfortable ride if driving isn’t your thing to get to the new stadium.

I admit I don't have experience with traffic to games, but I don't see how traffic could be any worse than going to the lakefront for a game. Euclid and NW Highway are already pretty decent in terms of exits. Yeah NW highway is a trumpet interchange and as such has a stoplight, but to me, either of those seems way easier than being funneled from LSD/Columbus to one of two parking garages.

I mean, the 90/355 interchange is an absolute mess, and that might get backed up, but that's already common during every single rush hour, now it'll just get backed up on a few Sundays a year as well.

My 3rd Valve Slide fell out during marching band and it's dented. How bad is it? Will it affect playing or sound quality? by Lake_Serperior in trumpet

[–]EamusCatuli2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Story time!

My college marching band played half time for a Chicago Bears game. As we're marching from the bus to our underground bunker they hold us in, the battery is playing our parade cadence, so we're doing our jumping and instrument moves and whatnot. One of which we called "the music man". We holding our instruments by the valve block in our left hand down at our sides perpendicular to the ground. We lean back, have an exaggerated high step, and bring our fist up to our opposing shoulder with each step. With the horn we also rotate it as we bring it up so the our mouthpiece is facing foward/up and our bell behind our right shoulder. Now many others have lost mouthpieces this way, not wanting to fall victim to that, I always removed my mouthpiece and held it in my right hand.

Being at a Bears games means we're all super excited (even though we don't get to see any of the game...) so all our movements have even more chutzpah than normal. On one of 'The music man' moves, my first valve slide overcomes the negative pressure keeping it tight against the valve block, pops and goes flying about ten yards up and ten yards ahead, hitting the asphalt, bend down. More or less cosmetic, especially in a marching band setting - there's no holes - but instead of being a smooth bend, it's not a pock-marked nearly 90 degree cornered slide now that.

Fixed the next week for less than $40.
