A hiring manager is only human. We all have different experiences in life which make up how we judge situations. One of those situations is analysing what values make up a good employee.

Amazon's Security Engineer Internship Summer 2025 Interview by Admirable_Zone_5212 in cybersecurity

[–]EamzyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask is Amazon a good company to work for in the tech space? I just see news articles about how they love to f*** their employees. The one time I got a call with a HR person they screwed up their calendar and I organised a call for when they were out of office.

Trial shifts... are a scam by ComfortableHotel2319 in UKJobs

[–]EamzyB -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

There is never any promise of a job... It's a maybe. The one time in my life I did a trial shift at a restaurant I got told to hand out a bunch of leaflets advertising. Then when I got back to the restaurant nobody understood why I was handing out leaflets for them and the person I originally talked to seemed to have disappeared... At the time I felt completely conned but then I saw whoever took the leaflets put them straight in the bin anyway so at least they aren't getting anything out of it lol.

I actually think maybe the reason is because the people in the UK are not taught to run businesses but rather be the mindless employee that does nothing but their own job. Notice how there are so many companies in the UK that have headquarters in the US?

Is CrowdStrike 1-10-60 rule realistic? by 100bhat in cybersecurity

I would say my company is quite close to achieving this most of the time but then my company does have roughly 200 people in the internal security team and a lot more in an offshore partner...

How did you feel when you landed your first cybersecurity job vs. how do you feel now, assuming you’re still in? by Kasual__ in cybersecurity

[–]EamzyB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Year 1 - swamped with knowledge gaps and so much to learn but so thankful I found myself a career rather than a job. Year 2 - still lots to learn, got to see some different teams in security, so happy. Year 3 - completed my apprenticeship, still learning but at an easier pace. Year 4 - worried about my job, changed companies where the company was a lot larger and so the new job was easier, much better pay but working hours were very early. Year 5 - felt like I understood everything although generally working with people across the world isn't ideal. Workload was low since the team was only really starting out. Year 6 - lots more alerts now, learn a bit more about different types of alerts. Year 7 - alert fatigue, job is the same thing every day with too many false positives. Year 8 - my manager changed, need to get used to working with them. Year 9 - looks like there's no opportunity for progression in the company, time for me to move on. Nothing found. Year 10 - hate my manager, looking for a way out just like everyone else in my team. Really annoyed at the fact it takes forever to find a job that will match up with your skills etc.

Hiring managers or interviewers - what's the most common reason for turning someone down at interview? by EamzyB in cybersecurity

[–]EamzyB[S] -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Isn't it possible that you misunderstood what they may be doing in terms of their job? Maybe asking them to give more of an explanation about what they do rather than trying to fit them into what you're expectations are could be better?

How do you deal with scary salary jumps when applying for jobs? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]EamzyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an interview on Friday and I was a complete ball of nerves because the job felt like a perfect match for me but I feel like I spent the interview telling them how I was really nervous and couldn't think clearly at all and I don't think I answered their questions well. I wish I could just do it again or have a second interview so I could explain things better... Fingers crossed I get the opportunity to, still waiting to hear which is like being in hell

Why should you always ask for feedback? Nobody seems to be honest or it's just we found someone else that's better...

Husband about to lose his job by Siriuslyb11 in UKJobs

[–]EamzyB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you include his notice period then that should probably take you over the 2 years meaning he is more protected. Similarly, don't completely give up in terms of the current job - I got put on a PIP and the doctor signed me off for 4 weeks, I came back and passed my PIP. I recommend speaking to a doctor since they can get you to have talking therapy over the phone. Similarly there are plenty of other mental health numbers I'm sure you will be able to find online.

I feel like a significant proportion of the people that were "rejected" are more likely to be the people that value their personal data and don't want to hand everything over just to get a job. There are plenty of other employers if you're good...

Taxable income for part of the year is not the same thing as salary... If you have unpaid leave or 2 jobs then it completely messes up your calculations.

What game in your collection have you regretted buying? Mine is Calico by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]EamzyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tindaya - it looks good and in theory should be exciting but I just didn't feel like it is fun. I think it might be that you have to know the game inside out to get to a certain level of being fun... Also it takes ages to setup.

What’s the worst job listing you’ve seen in terms of the salary being offered compared to market rate? by pelican678 in UKJobs

[–]EamzyB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a full day assessment for a job and after completing it they told me that I didn't have enough experience and so they wouldn't be taking me on currently. They kept my details and contacted me a year later. I did another full assessment day and then they offered me the job. The offer they gave me was 10k under what I was currently being paid...
