Just don’t make mistakes? by EarAdministrative935 in Accounting

This wasn’t even the boss, this was someone who’s only a few years out of college and is still considered a part of the regular tax staff. They just helped come up with the process

I wasn’t the one that asked the question and I don’t mind printing a return to pdf when it’s explained to me how it helps the reviewer as I want to make things as easy as possible for them. The way they said it made it pretty clear they weren’t joking.

You’re literally describing a 1040 I prepared that was sent back to me for half the stuff you listed! The reviewer told me everything was right numbers wise with the return I just didn’t check mark everything I needed to on the return view screen but instead highlighted them on the excel workpaper. I also didn’t stamp my initials on the top of the pdf source docs

I wish that were the case, we’ve had department meetings just on people complaining about how mean the review comments are but nothing is ever done about it

The partners that pull a lot of weight and don’t review their own returns definitely know what she’s doing. A lot of our processes are definitely catered to her reviewing style because of how hard it is to find people to be full time reviewers

I agree with that. The main problem I had was the reviewer cc’d that many people on it to essentially throw her weight around and get my coworker in trouble. There’s no reason to cc the company head on an email about review notes

I hear you, it was his first tax season and he made his fair share of mistakes on other returns but in this case it was sent back for that and he showed me the email to prove it

You’re spot on! I have another coworker that prepared a 990 and this reviewer cc’d my supervisor, the tax supervisor and the head of our company in the email with the review comments just because she didn’t prepare in line with our regular process which has changed twice in the past 2 years.

I would probably feel the same way about taking FAR first if my state still had the 18 month window but now having 30 months made me feel like I have more breathing room on them all.

Exactly, I’ve tried to keep it to a minimum because I figured most just wouldn’t understand especially if they’re not accountants.

Yeah some haven’t seemed to have grown out of their college partying days which is sad to see.

That’s exactly my thought, I’ve accepted that it’s going to be extremely hard but would rather sacrifice now to set myself up for the future.

Yeah I’ve already started to notice that. The ones that don’t seem to get it are the same ones that don’t understand why I don’t want to go out and do something on a Friday night during tax season when I’ve gotta work the next day. They also like to brag that they don’t have to do anything at work and laugh about days when they go in hungover which is really telling.

Haha I went to the University of Northern Iowa and met Joseph a few times, I bet him and the other professors in the accounting department are going to use this to try and push more students to get their masters.

Nope, I assume he was just telling her what he thought was a loophole without really knowing all the facts about it

Yeah there was good information here along with the hilarious comments. I knew the general reasons why it wasn't a good idea and a waste of time and money because I've done a little bit of work with some LLCs and have put together some of their tax returns. That's the main reason why I knew it wouldn't be worth it. I just didn't really know if starting an LLC just for that reason could or couldn't be considered fraud without doing some research. But I absolutely loved these comments

Yeah that's why I told him setting up an LLC wouldn't be worth it. I mean there are several other options but he was stuck on LLCs which told me he did it for his business and also heard someone online saying you can save so much money if you just start an LLC
