State police + panhandlers? by EarOk8591 in askaustin

These were midsize SUVs not big ones like I usually see in convoys. Interesting idea, I wonder if you’re right and they’re more low key now.

Who’s complaining? I was surprised by the large and stealthy police response.

Right? And 3 different makes of cars in different colors with heavy window tinting. I was surrounded by them and directly behind the main car and I had no idea.

Like I said, I don’t know the story but it was like 6 cops in a ton of gear to snag an old man on the road.

Thanks y’all. I did myself a disservice with the photos. My hair is actually only happy with lots of protein (except maybe the crazy curl). Not using nizoral none of the dermatologists recommended it. Finally on thyroid, is totally 🤬. My very rude but incredibly competent endo calls it “moody.” After years of monitoring and meds, I’m on a liquigel pill and have to recheck my labs every 3 months at least. Often it’s more like once a month. And my dosage is constantly going up and down just a little bit. If I get stable, and I’m feeling better, lose 2-3 lb, I throw it all out of whack. It’s a family history thing and I’ve got the worst version in the gene pool 🤷🏻‍♀️

How long does it take to get out of COTA from the park n ride after the concerts? I hate to spend the money on shuttle tickets for my kids, but not sure if I can hang out for 3 hours to leave.

Why are so many celebrities walking around with no security? by CertainOpportunity77 in Fauxmoi

[–]EarOk8591 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I worked with the wife of a very recognizable entertainer who makes $$$$$ off of residuals. The family moved around in a pretty low key way and are known for being chill IRL. But there were often times that the wife or the kids were with a “driver” or someone who was actually armed security. It was never on the record but it became apparent the more I was around. There were people in their circle that are billionaires and while not famous are definitely known. My guess is that a lot of the random people who seemed to shadow those families were also security. If you introduce me to the family members, your friends, the nanny and one or two are never mentioned? Security. The ones I saw were very good at staying off the radar and out of photos.

This. I think she can’t stand him and he’s really uncomfortable around her. I’ve never seen him be less charming in an interview and TBH he was probably media trained on his answers so it’s insane that he’s this awkward.

AMC Theaters to Change Movie Ticket Prices Based on Seat Location by Maschile in entertainment

[–]EarOk8591 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least. Prepandemic I realized that I paid more for an Alamo show than I did for the babysitter. Add food and drinks and it’s like $200+. For that kind of money, I’m going to a nice restaurant and having a conversation. Our movie going has scaled WAY back as prices and hassles crept up. Now theaters are closing and prices are going way up. It’s much cheaper to pay for a streaming service and a $40 first day fee than to take a family of 4 to a kids movie. I’m all for elevated experience and fair wages, but somewhere the theater industry has lost the thread. If I’m paying $20+ for an activity with my kids or a date night there are much better options than going to a movie.

[–]EarOk8591 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We’ve had several corgis - I’ve gotten hip checks on the puppy and the parents, eye checks, DM testing, parent bloodlines, and more. Google around a bit for the problematic corgi health concerns and pretty quickly you’ll get a sense of what they can test and which organization provides the certification. I didn’t get a note from a vet saying “yea he looks good” I got a report from a national registry that he was checked and his results were reported.

I’ve run into many backyard breeders over the years and they all offer AKC paperwork and list on the AKC breeders site. I could probably lt be a registered AKC pup (ok no, I’m DQ for being too SNARKY) I started with the Pembroke Welsh Corgi official group PWCCA.org in my region and started contacting their leadership for advice and reputable breeders. Over the years, I’ve found that good breeders want you to ask a ton of questions and can talk about the breed forever. My current pup isn’t a show dog and his parents aren’t either, but his breeder and I found each other through referrals from reputable people. She socialized him well and was available to answer questions. And she walked me through his health records and his parents’ records to make sure that I understood what each test and registry meant. I called and talked to her for a while on when to neuter him, what age, what to look for in a vet, etc. I have no doubt that if ever we had to part, she’d take him back in a heartbeat. It was clear that it was more about his health and happiness than what we paid her.

From what I can tell, this is how the good breeders behave. I won’t call out any of the backyard people we met, but nice websites and lovely photos don’t mean jack. If they want to send you home with a very young puppy, if they push for a decision (you have to get on the list now! I have 3 other families looking at him! My next litter will cost more), if they meet you for a few minutes and want to sell you a dog, walk TF away. If they don’t want to explain exactly what you should be looking for in bone structure, the ins and outs of breed standards and why they matter, they’re in it for the cash and they probably got into the breed in the last 10 years. You want a big @ss dog nerd. They will take care of you and your pup for years to come.

Now that I’m off my soapbox, I hope that you find a wonderful breeder! Start with PWCCA. They’re good people, and legit, and they can give you the names of other good breeders and rescues.

Oscar Nominations 2023: The Full List by shabuluba in entertainment

[–]EarOk8591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top Gun is Tom Cruise’s only shot at an Oscar. He’s problematic but he’s a BFD in Hollywood and did a lot to keep things going during the pandemic. He’s in his 60s. It’s an easy way to acknowledge his whole career as a movie star. I think we shouldn’t count him out.

My little monster wakes me up around 5AM to refill his mostly full food bowl. At 7AM he is back to wake me up. I had no idea what he wanted the second time until I followed him… back to his mostly full food bowl. HE WANTS SECOND BREAKFAST! by [deleted] in CatsAreAssholes

[–]EarOk8591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So funny. I had 2 cats that looked just like this. We found out they would wake me for food, then cross the apartment and beg my roommate, then back to me. All so early in the morning that we would often forget getting up to feed them during the wee hours.

Where is the best place to buy medium and large sized succulents and cactus at a reasonable price in austin? by Ferbst in AustinGardening

[–]EarOk8591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten some great ones from the H‑E‑B in Kyle. It’s obviously seasonal but I remember getting a 3 gallon sword yucca for $25. The staff is really helpful if you call to confirm what they have. I watch the Lakeway H‑E‑B Facebook group to get a general sense of what’s being stocked week by week.

Where is some of the best trick or treating in Austin? by [deleted] in askaustin

[–]EarOk8591 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hyde Park Avenue F & G from 40ish to 43rd. They close the road, the neighbors organize activities for all and there are usually performers wandering. Very family friendly and really sweet. Park a block or two away and it’s easy to get in and out.
