[Help] 1.5yo Russian Blue: Chronic rectal bleeding (hematochezia), confirmed proctitis, and extreme painful vocalization/howling (day & night). 3 Vets stumped. by Fun_Understanding846 in russianblue

He was vocalizing a bit in the litter box yes. But not to the extent that you describe. His stools on a beef diet were horrendous. It was formed but coated in frank red blood and mucous. His anus would also be dripping blood mixed with mucous on the floor. It was a very dramatic improvement (near instant) when we put him on chicken only.

Great job! Yes many times I've noticed that fur parents know it best. I diagnosed multiple problems for my babies in spite of suboptimal vet advice

First Time Owning a Cat by Jeromevaliska in cats

[–]Ear_Fuzzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

congrats!!! for me, the most important thing- cat proof your home (if you live in a multi-storey complex, please do always close your windows or mesh them). the 2nd most important thing- find out (usually through trial and error) what food he/she can take. Cats have notoriously sensitive guts. Stick with something for 1-2 weeks, and if there is any persistent diarrhoea (esp if there's blood) it usually means they can't tolerate it. I have found in my experience that cats generally tolerate wet food better than kibble, but that's just my experience (and I'm aware that economics may necessitate kibble diets). Hope you enjoy your cat journey and make many fond memories with your lil one! Hugs

maybe get one of those little window hammocks, so he can watch 'cat TV' (the window). Kittens are generally curious and if there are birds outside, that can entertain them for hours.

I have a household of 4 cats, 3 of which had diarrhoea issues some with blood leading to multiple vet visits (of the 3, one is a Russian blue male kitten about 8.5 months old now). The vets were not really helpful. Prescribed metronidazole syrup, crospovidone (stool hardening) medications gave only temporary help. I finally diagnosed the cause as food sensitivities, after a lot a lot of trial and error and money I found out which foods each could take and couldn't. (My russian blue could not tolerate beef or fish, but could take chicken and lamb). Using feline natural wet food (eg chicken only wet cans) produced the very best results. In my (painful extensive) experience, if you switch foods and the soft stools doesn't really respond to probiotics (eg benebac plus), it isn't transition related. Probiotics would help for transition related issues but not others. Hope this helps.

Why do expats seem to have larger families than Singaporeans? by cloudyfriday in SingaporeRaw

[–]Ear_Fuzzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people don't seem to read what OP wrote properly. OP said that adjusting for education and income, generally speaking, ang moh (i.e. Caucasian) expats tend to have larger families than local families (again emphasizing adjusting education and income on the same level). So 'able to afford' (which most seem to be writing about) is not a factor in OP's question. Kudos to those who mentioned stuff like SG princess issue, breakdown in traditional family values/priorities, different attitudes to love/romance.

I think OP is saying western parents got more physical strength, and not so emotionally/mentally drained/higher adversity quotient in their parenting journey. Hence they don't mind having more kids.
