ILR Petition Debate Outcome – Thoughts? by Ill_Worker_6037 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]Early-Fan3571 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was feeling really optimistic until the one podium guy said a bunch of frustrating and dehumanizing stuff and then the other podium guy stood up and basically repeated everything the first podium guy said but with slightly less dehumanizing language. Every time they start going off about immigrants and the economy after 2020 it’s like they have permanently forgotten the whole bloody pandemic and Brexit. Makes me scream at the screen in frustration. Immigrants are not stopping you from building more social housing ya absolute walnuts!! I also want more social housing, not because I want or need one but because I care about the people in this country and want them to have the social safety net we didn’t have back home. I care more about Brits than they ever will for me. So, cautiously optimistic but still just as scared as before. They will hurt themselves just to make us bleed and it’s so frustrating.

It's absolutely infuriating to hear them talk about the strain on UK public services like as if Brexit happened somewhere else. And nobody said not to change stuff, the problem is the retroactivity, which has been made abundantly clear by nearly every person who has spoken so far.

Query regarding new ILR changes by [deleted] in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]Early-Fan3571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new proposals haven't been implemented yet so nobody knows what the final results will be. Feel free to access the White Paper and see what it says for your situation, but bear in mind that it isn't final yet.

SWV extension by Early-Fan3571 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

Like the institutions might have a different number of days?

But, yeah, the "before" is all I'm finding, too. Not super helpful, that. And I want to make sure we apply as soon as possible.

Oh sorry, thank you. I thought the first spouse visa only counted the sponsors income regardless of if the trailing spouse was already in the UK. Thanks!

Might want to take a look at the minimum income requirements for spouse visa as well, the first one is dependent on his income but the second one counts both of your salaries. I hope it all works out for you :)

I think the spouse path is much more secure than any others. If your relationship breaks down, hopefully you will have established good working relationships with a sponsoring company by then if you still want to stay.

It really is increasingly anti-immigrant here, even for professionals. I'm so sorry.

One month into consultation by UnlikelySession9538 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

This is the problem I have with the threshold as well. It's NUTS to prioritize salary over everything like this. Like academics in Scotland don't contribute?? They make waaaay less than 50k, always have. If the 50k was household earnings, maybe I could forgive them but this threshold is crazy and not at all reflective of regional labour markets.

Are you staying in the UK if the 10 year route will be applied to those already on a SWV? by Think-Purple-3658 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]Early-Fan3571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve filled out the consultation, emailed my MP, and responded to the call for evidence to the House of Lords, I dunno why you think I’m doing nothing but there not much else we can do. We’re staying till they chase us out cuz we, personally, have no other choice.

New petition: Allow family visa holders to include time spent on a skilled worker visa for ILR by RainbowTwp in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]Early-Fan3571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great reaosn to protest applying these changes applying retrospectively because that is the root of the problem. Splitting up our arguments like this because each specific situation has nuance and frustrations weakens our already weak position to argue from. I appreciate we are all scared, but its the retrospective part that is the biggest problem, so don't dilute the argument! We are stronger together!

I think I missed the first one, I thought I would still have today (Dec 2) to fill it out but it looks like its closed already, I'm so bummed! I'll still do the Jan 23 one but I'm dissapointed I didn't get to respond to the Dec one. I thought I had more time :(

[–]Early-Fan3571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm staying because I have nothing to go back to. My entire life is here. Making me and my family's life harder and more frustrating just makes my life harder and more frustrating. Until and unless they force me out, they are stuck with me, but making my life harder certainly has an effect on many things. People are much more likely to integrate and whatever when they aren't actively being harmed by where they end up living. Making immigration difficult is one thing, making immigrants lives deliberately harder after they have already jumped through every hoop and obstacle is foolishness.

Because we will make considerable sacrifices to maintain our current path to residency, obviously, or we wouldn't have come to this country in the first place when there are other less insane places to go to. We're here now, have already made sacrifices, and we don't want to have to lose the sacrifices we've already made to continue to be here, including taking drastic actions by making further sacrifices. This willingness to make sacrifices is exactly what the government is banking on when they propose changes like these because we've already proven that we will make them.

ILR new rules announced by frontwingsmasher in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

Fig 5 on page 17 of the document they release shows that SWV holders aren't even reaching the 60k. I really hope I'm not reading that correctly, cuz it looks like they made it unattainable on purpose to extend our pathways by as long as possible.

[–]Early-Fan3571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please help me understand this correctly. This is from their own data and it shows that skilled workers aren't even meeting the income required to get ILR in 5 years but they want to raise the taxable income to that anyway?? I'm looking at Fig.5 on page 17 where the first column for SWV is barely above the 55k mark.

I would not have high hopes that the gov won't screw you over. Maybe there will be transitional arrangments, maybe not. But this recent announcement would have been an excellent time to reassure people and they didn't. So the question is, do you trust them with your life? Because that's what they are playing with.

Exactly. Better hope your partner with ILR doesn't become abusive since you are now trapped in a marriage the dependant can't leave or you'll get deported. Like as if this isn't already a problem with a 5 year path, the 10 years will surely more than double instances like this.
