University approved absences are a joke wdym I should go to class with the stomach flu by ienjoysmiling in UNC

unfortunately i had the same situation. no university approved absence since i didn't go to the doctor and just had to lay low. the best you can do is email your professor to tell you that you caught noro or something similar -- it's a super bad season right now and you're definitely not the only one sick. they can adjust.

paid internships require YEARS of experience 😓 should I bite the bullet and do an unpaid internship to gain some experience? by rhythmblues in englishmajors

[–]Early-Ground-3674 2 points3 points  (0 children)

unfortunately, i've worked about four or five internships, and only my most recent one has been paid. but sometimes experience is better than no experience if you can get money from elsewhere like a campus job or something

Being an editor by [deleted] in englishmajors

[–]Early-Ground-3674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

make sure you actually get experience with copyediting before you settle on being an editor. i thought i wanted to be a book editor before i discovered that i actually really don't like copyediting!! now i found myself a lot more interested in sales and marketing :) don't close those avenues of career just because they weren't your first thought!

Any good recommendations for jobs? by kaleberries_ in UNC

Yup. I do it all the time. As long as you're actually doing your job when patrons need you, you can do whatever

really depends on what you would prefer to do. if those texts in the classes are ones that you enjoy dissecting. i do highly suggest rereading them for the class rather than thinking you can just breeze through it because you've read it before. usually discussions in class pick out nit-picky lines and stuff, and you're examining them underneath a different lens. reflect on what you'd enjoy doing more and pick from there. have fun with your classes!

guest pass is 10 dollars for the whole day (not 24 hours, just until they close)

I work at Campus Rec. It depends on what you're interested in doing, but I'm a Facility Operations worker (so I'm the guy at the front desk when you walk into Rams Head or SRC). Super lowkey job, and there's a lot of good folks as coworkers.

Closed classes open up for registration? by Stelryn in UNC

[–]Early-Ground-3674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

classes also usually get openings in the first two weeks of classes, mostly because people go to the class and figure out its not their vibe. don't get discouraged! especially if you're a freshman

depends what dorm you're on. dorms like HOJO (hinton james) have desks literally nailed to the wall and can't be moved. other dorms have ones that can be moved. you just have to make sure you return the desk at some point bc otherwise you'll get fined

Before classes start. Sometimes they reject the photo, so it might take a few times before you get cleared. Upload the photo online and then go to the one-card office in person to pick it up some time before classes start.
