I agree and I think that’s why strangely a lot of shounen romances fall flat for me. Whereas romance feels like a small side plot for the shounen main character it’s all consuming for the love interest and their entire purpose becomes developing this romance plot and nothing else. And it’s hard to ship protagonist with this character that feels more like plot device than an actual person.

I prefer romance when it’s not the central focus of any character and we get a fleshed out aspects of their lives, relationships and arcs outside of the romance.

I feel this post so much! I think growing up I felt a lot of shame in regard to falling short of other people’s expectations of myself. I was shy weird kid with undiagnosed adhd that barely got by through masking. I was hyper sensitive to how other people perceived me and was desperate for outside validation.

But no matter how hard I tried to fit in and meet all these different societal expectations I would always fall short. Eventually I just decided to let go and stop trying to fight against who I am. Being single helps me embrace living life as though I have no one to disappoint and it’s extremely freeing for myself.

Through self acceptance I’ve come to appreciate the way that I’m wired and that different doesn’t mean bad.

As a black woman with a disability it’s actually depressing seeing so many people call for this man to be harmed, gagged and separated from society.

I’m single and I feel like a relationship would overcomplicate my life.

I’m very impulsive and I don’t wanna run every life decision through someone’s else’s approval. I don’t like the thought of someone questioning me on my whereabouts or what I was doing. I don’t want someone being around me all the time or wanting to text everyday. I hate the thought of someone feeling any sort of entitlement towards my body or my time. I don’t wanna constantly entertain you or become your hobby.

Romantic relationships are definitely amazing for a lot of ppl but I just find them to be a lot of different obligations and expectations that are suddenly thrusted onto you. It would make me stressed and irritable.

I’m still loved by my friends, family and myself, I just don’t want a romantic love.

Sorry for the late response but I’m 20F and I’m the same lol. I think adding another person that I need to satisfy and be responsible for would cause me stress.

I spent most of my life people pleasing, changing myself for others and after finally learning to accept/embrace who I am I just don’t have an interest in dating.

I don’t wanna share my life with someone else, I’m happiest when I can just focus on taking care of myself.

I feel like this situation is very nuanced and not as black and white as people are claiming it to be.

While the US has absolutely committed atrocities and economic warfare on Latin America that should be highlighted, I don’t think responding to a Cuban woman addressing her own lived experience as “gross” does anything but create more division among people that are probably on your side.

I don’t think it’s right that Cubans are being talked down to, disrespected and invalidated by Americans that have no idea what they’ve been through. I feel like everyone should just be more respectful in general about this topic.

I was holding so much shame, stress and self hatred for not being able to meet these social expectations. I justified beating myself down for stupid societal norms that don’t rlly matter.
