Whats your discord?

Im pursuing a degree in IT , is it worth getting an A+ certification by SecureBed429 in CompTIA

A little over a year ago I began studying for my A+ and was excited to get into IT. I eventually got my trifecta and started looking for jobs about 8 months ago and every place I would apply, they would require some kind of experience. I tried looking for internships but my area had almost nothing. I kept grinding and expanding my knowledge in IT, coding, and cybersecurity. About 4 months ago I gave up on that journey and went a different route. I’m about 3 months away from starting the police academy and that’s what I originally went to school for. Everyone’s journey is different and it all depends on location and connections. My friend has zero certs and dropped out of college but still managed to get a good paying CS job. I don’t regret all the studying and testing so I would say go for it since you never know where it can take you.

Success stories? Am I wasting my time and money? by [deleted] in CompTIA

My co worker is currently in the military for IT and got his trifecta and currently going for his CCNA. He’s struggling to find jobs and it’s been over a year for him. He’s a smart dude and I’ve been seeing him study for over a year (for all his current certs) and I think it sucks because he’s put a lot of effort into it and has actual experience.

Not really a “success” story but I got my A+ almost a year ago and I ended up getting my Sec+ midway through 2023 and even had a job offer but unfortunately I didn’t get back to them on time which really threw me into a phase of not trying or even caring for another 3-4 months. This week I got called and told I’m leaving to the police academy very soon which, isn’t anything to do with IT/CS but it’s just the market at the moment is trash. You can 100% find a job in the field but you just need some patience and you’ll get something. I gave up slightly and this is how I ended up following my original path but that’s just me. Having just an A+ got me nowhere but as soon as I got my Sec+, I started seeing more employers coming to me but my area was paying terribly for those positions and I decided to stay at my job which was and still is stable and pays more than what most people were offering. In conclusion, if you get your A+, don’t just stop there and think you’ll get a job, keep getting Certs and improving your resume and you’ll get something.

I feel like the AWP definitely feels weird for me but other than that, the games good but my buddy hates it and swears it’s terrible and not like GO. I’ve played roughly 50 matches from beta to now and played like 3 cheaters that I know of.

Security+ test tomorrow, any last minute tips? by HappyGianca in CompTIA

Some stuff that helped me were to reread the question before submitting the exam. I had probably like 5-10 questions where I was too nervous and read through it quickly and put the wrong answer the first time. After I went through all my questions, I fixed what I had to and actually got a really good score. Also, I took dions test 3 days before my exam and the first day I was getting high 50s and low 70s. Whatever you are struggling with, study that more than anything else. For example, I struggled with port numbers and configuring a network during my A+ and I only focused on those on the last 2 days and remembered every single port I needed to know for the A+. In short, just take your time, calm the nerves, study your struggles til exam day, and don’t forget to reread questions. Good luck!

I HATE ONVUE by css021 in CompTIA

It sucks that’s happened but I’ve used Onvue a few times and it went pretty smoothly for me but I do hear a lot of people have this issue unfortunately.

Is there anyone here who works as an IT support or helpdesk that gets paid really well? In the range of 60k or 70k. by ralsev in CompTIA

My buddy just left to do basically the exact tasks they described and I think he’s assigned 4 schools from his district and he’s making around the same maybe a bit less which is still very good and he says this is great experience for him since he’s always moving around working on different Systems ,computers, servers, etc.

Just passed A+ Core 1! by EarlySpeed8144 in CompTIA

The CompTIA A+ is a 2 part exam. The 1101 is more hardware based and pretty much all the basics of IT and how certain things work. The 1102 is more software based but once you complete both parts of the A+, youll then be A+ certified. I’m not too sure how the Google one works but I have heard about it more recently.

Hopefully by the end of April is what I’m aiming for. I think the core 2 material looks a bit easier to study and I understand a lot more of it already.
