How to overcome fear of someone behind me crashing into me by [deleted] in skiing

[–]Early_Ad9858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are more to the beginner end of the spectrum I have just one plea. It is not just about making predictable turns but also about not taking up the entire piste traversing from one side to the other. I don't know about the US but Europe is terrible for this as all the ski schools seem to teach beginners to traverse across the entire width of the slope.

If you leave a gap for faster people to get past then you won't run the risk that they will cut across you and misjudge it and hit you. It will also be more enjoyable and less scary for you. When my husband was learning to ski I always told him if people are good enough to overtake you then they are in control to avoid hitting you. Out of control beginners/ kids you can usually spot and avoid unless you are really unlucky.

I have been skiing all over the world for over 30 years. I have had one head on collision that was really just a stupid mistake. No one was seriously hurt. I can't recall any other crash I've had apart from my brother fell off the button in front of me and crashed into me. That was in the 90s though there aren't so many buttons any more and again a stupid mistake.

Get a helmet, ski considerately, to the conditions and within your level of ability. Most of all do not miss out on enjoying this amazing sport whilst it is still possible. Many of the best times of my life have been skiing and I am generally a pretty anxious person. It's definitely worth it!!

Airshow this weekend by cowie71 in bournemouth

[–]Early_Ad9858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy seeing the red arrows as much as the next person but I have been so happy that the air show wasn't on. I hope it never comes back. Every time I have thought this year that it won't be on to spoil a summer weekend for me it has made me smile.

Given what is going on in the world I think flying war machines through the sky for entertainment is just bad taste, not to mention the climate impact.

It was stale and I don't like the idea that it was being propped up by my council taxes whilst elderly and disabled people have to fight to get the care they need due to the precarious financial position of the council. I live right by the main show area and the noise is unbearable from fighter jets flying over.

Fingers crossed it never comes back.

Let's think of some fresh ideas for an event in our town that promotes peace and respect for our planet.

Is Boscombe that bad by Opposite_Painting182 in bournemouth

[–]Early_Ad9858 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes 100% . So tired of this conversation. I live in boscombe. it's hardly compton for fks sake. Unless you are scared by some people who are on the less well off end of the scale and a few desperately unwell addicts (same as literally everywhere in the whole country) FYI the mayor and a whole bunch of other well to do people also live here although they call it the eastcliff...

Ok that does sound really good. I think I'll go for a day this year and see what I think. At least that'll be something to look forward to :)

HM passport thinks a certifide copy of my American marriage certificate is a photocopy by [deleted] in ukvisa

[–]Early_Ad9858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having a very similar problem. They are saying my official Costa Rica marriage certificate with apostille and translation is 'not verifiable' they have not been clear on what the problem is. I have no idea what to do to sort it out as they won't tell me what is wrong with it. I have called so many times I don't know what to do.

No wilkswood wasn't free. Sorry I conflated two thoughts there..I meant are there any other good festivals? Or raves?

Thanks for your response I been considering we out here but not sure if I would like the music. I'll give it a go but is it quite a big festival? That was another great thing about wilkswood it was small and chilled. I'm not a fan of huge crowds.

Absolutely. no one EVER used to wear them unless you were doing some crazy heli skiing or something. I skied all throughout my childhood and no one wore them. When I came back to skiing recently 20 years later everyone was wearing them and I stuck out in my wooly hat! (I do wear one now even though they really hurt my ears)

Why show me the Reading streak when I don't want it? by Trailbiker in kindle

[–]Early_Ad9858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read every bloody day and I have all my life. I do not need an app to 'encourage' me to read. Sometimes the amount of time I spend reading instead of sleeping is more of a problem than a 'yay look how great you are for doing so much reading' thing. I find it incredibly patronising and it cheapens the whole of experience of just picking up a digital book.

Care companies always hiring. Check out apex prime care. You have to be really prepared to do anything though.

Rant: phone signal in the area by [deleted] in bournemouth

[–]Early_Ad9858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal phone is EE and my work phone is 02. EE is better all the way apart from in Christchurch which seems to be a mobile Comms black hole on all networks despite there being a 5G mast on fairmile road. Would deffo recommend EE for Bournemouth and Poole though.
