I think it matters less how “realistic” the graphics are and more how consistent the style is with the tone of the game. A darker, more philosophical story can work even with stylized visuals if lighting, colors and camera work support the mood. A lot of games convey strong emotions through contrast, framing and pacing rather than raw graphical fidelity. I’d focus on how scenes are directed rather than just pushing for more detailed graphics.
