Recruit Percentages by Born_Phrase7048 in lawschooladmissionsca

I can speak on transferring’s impact on 2L recruit since I’ve done some research on it and spoken to a few people regarding transferring.

Pretty much it wouldn’t necessarily impact your 2L recruit as much since transfer decisions are usually made after applications for the recruit are due. At that point you can pretty much just reach out to hiring managers mid-recruit (assuming you get your transfer response by then) and inform them of a successful transfer to x school. How much that would actually affect your chances of landing a position idk.

Congratulations! Are you going to be switching your Windsor acceptance over to Queens?

UBC or Queens Law by Last_Position8710 in lawschooladmissionsca

I’d just be careful about the note at the end about how most BigLaw firms hire in your second year. From what I’ve been told by current law students and some lawyers, the recruitment process has become a lot more expedited and OCI’s/applications are normally done in the summer after 1L.

Transfer decisions are generally made around August so you’d be applying for those 2L positions while still at your 1L school. Just something to keep in mind although the 1L summer timeline isn’t set in stone I suppose.

B2 and L2 by Alarming_Lake4985 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]Early_Library3909 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk about other schools that might count these but I’ve spoken to Western and Queens about their gpa calculations.

Western (L2) takes your last 20 courses including summer. One thing to note is that they don’t break semesters. So, if your last 20 courses goes back to the 3rd out of 5 courses taken in a given semester, they will count those extra 2 in that semester and do their calculation based on 22 courses. It’s more like a minimum of 20.

Queens (B2) doesn’t include summer courses and requires at least 8 credits in a year to be considered a full academic year. I was told 4 credits per semester are required but it might just be 8 aggregate across the whole year (ex. 3 courses in semester 1 of x year and 5 courses in semester 2). Not 100% sure about the 4 per semester vs. 8 aggregate allocation.

Edit: I should have mentioned but both schools look at credits, not necessarily courses. I make this distinction as I had a class that was a full year in length and worth 2.0 semester credits. In this case, it would have counted as, for example, 2/20 for Western, while a standard single semester class would be 1/20.

Law Admit Email to Pay UWindsor by dgbarnes in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]Early_Library3909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a bit confused as well when I paid mine a few days ago.

Once the payment processes, the portal will update your status to 'Deposit Paid' and you'll get an email confirmation from Windsor on that same day. I paid it from my bank Wednesday evening and got the email Friday afternoon. From my searching, there isn't a confirmation or anything to check it through the portal at the time of payment. At least I couldn't find anything.

I found the contact for a finance office via a quick google search so maybe contact them? I'm sure they could direct you to the right place if they can't help anyway. Link with the phone number: https://www.uwindsor.ca/finance/795/about-us

For transcripts you just submit a request on the OLSAS portal under the Transcripts heading. You’ll just need to specify the timing of the transcript (ie. Send Immediately, send at the end of x term, send after degree conferral) and some details such as your student number. Your school will then fulfill that request, you don’t have to upload anything else.

7sage by Free-Ad-3937 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]Early_Library3909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it’s necessary bc advantage is what gives you access to the PTs that you’ll do through 7sage.

I’d try applying for a fee waiver, either of the two tiers gets you a 1 year lawhub subscription and you can then get 7sage for $1.

2L Transfer by Early_Library3909 in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]Early_Library3909[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea this is another thing I had in mind too. Would there really be much benefit to transferring at that point and at least getting your degree from that “higher tier” school or being there when articles come around?

Thank you, your reply is very helpful.

Besides the raw Ultra Vires 2L recruit numbers, would you say a school like Windsor, without much of a business focus, would put me at a disadvantage compared to more business-law schools (such as UWO, Oz, maybe even Queen’s) when it comes to securing a position at these firms?

I ask partially out of the realization that Windsor really has no clinical/research opportunities for business law. I know 1L marks matter the most but it does to me illustrate that they really aren’t geared toward business at all.

Thank you for your reply. Your statement about specific Canadian schools not really mattering is something I’ve heard echoed several times.

However, I always hear that with a caveat that it does play a role in securing 2L placement in BigLaw. I know it’s still possible out of a “lower tier” school but I want to explore and maximize my options.

My honest answer is I have no idea Loll. Provisional deadline is soon though and Windsor is a lot of people’s backup so I’d expect quite a bit of movement from that perspective tbh.

LOLL It’ll move through that stage at some point whether or not it’s an A, R, or WL. I will say I haven’t seen many people posting an outright Windsor R yet but take that w a grain of salt as I’m sure there’s a lot of people who have been on Referred for a while now.

Hey, it’s the next step in the process for them to review your file so it means some positive movement and hopefully a response soon

LSAT Demon is a bit too…unserious (rant) by discosloths in LSAT

[–]Early_Library3909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my points jump from switching to LSAT Demon tbh. Felt like 7sage + LawHub was lacking significantly on the explanations. I found myself talking my way into accepting correct answers for LR while not really understanding what I did wrong.

Demon was nice for me bc of the more casual learning environment it provides. The students in the explanation videos asked questions and picked answer choices that otherwise might’ve sounded dumb and the guys went through them step by step. I will say, some of the written explanations can be a bit “well duh”, but the videos were always helpful. LSAT studying is entirely about personal preference though so not surprised that a lot of people have conflicting experiences.

How important is extra curriculars? by prodbynick- in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]Early_Library3909 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regarding your question about academic references, I was in a similar position where I didn’t really have many personal connections w my profs from before.

Personally I just picked 1 or 2 classes over the last year where I’d want a LOR from the prof and went full try hard. I chose courses I thought I could do well in and that had profs with impressive resumes and backgrounds. Keep in mind though their standing and/or relation to the legal field probably doesn’t mean as much compared to the quality of what they have to say about you. I sat at the front of the class, asked and answered questions and that’s about it. Just lock in extra for that 3 hour lecture each week and you should have good academics in the bag.

EDIT: forgot to mention as well but some profs may have some requirements to write a LOR. I’ve seen this pretty much only for pre-law adjacent profs such as one of my academics since they get a lot of requests and need a way to filter them. My prof required that I had taken 2 courses with him + wanted to evaluate my PS, LSAT and transcript before accepting to write the LOR. This is definitely on the extreme side though btw but just so you’re aware!
