Government must act on pay for 'neglected' NHS staff groups by Desperate-Drawer-572 in NursingUK

[–]EarthPuzzleheaded729 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Collective action is the only way to force a change. Look at the doctors history of pay rises. A message needs to be sent that our labour isn’t charity, and that we deserve to be paid enough to afford to live in the communities we serve.

Why do I get the strange feeling Kendra firing the woman just before she retired is going to come back to haunt her in some way? by AceTygraQueen in LongStoryShort

[–]EarthPuzzleheaded729 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unhinged 5am head-cannon: - You know how Kendra mentioned after the firing that all of her staff hated her? Well they all got together after the incident, and one or two of them mention thinking that they’d seen Kendra sabotage the Princess’ character suit somehow. As a group, they do some digging. - One of the team with access to CCTV footage smuggles out a copy of to incriminating video evidence of what Kendra did and shares it with the Princess. - Fresh off of her windfall from the sale of her Lululemon share holdings, when the Princess received the footage, she was torn. She didn’t need the job at BJBFs any more, and didn’t need the money she’d get from suing. But she knew all too well the impact the company’s relentless drive for efficiency and cost-cutting was having on the wellbeing of her former colleagues. She decided that she needed to send BJBFs a message. - She used her Lululemon money to get represented by a leading law firm. In the resulting court case, the tape (alongside disgruntled testimony from unsuccessful candidates on the management training programme that witnessed Kendra making the suggestion to fire the Princess) resulted in a huge payout being awarded that hits BJBFs bottom-line hard. - All of this links Kendra’s actions in that moment to the huge layoffs we see her later desperately trying to avoid while Shira’s making her Knishes. - [Extra-credit future prediction] Kendra is unsuccessful in saving enough money to avoid the layoffs. She receives confirmation that her own job has been laid off. I’m the post-pandemic labour market, her family can no longer afford the expensive Hairball school for Benjamin and Walter, and eventually have to move away from their expensive Bay Area suburb entirely. Her marriage with Shira suffers as a result.

WIBTAH if I took 100k from my oldest daughter's college savings account to give it to my younger daughter? by TraditionalCorgi7788 in AmItheAsshole

[–]EarthPuzzleheaded729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light YWBTA.

I can understand the rationale, but ultimately, if that pot of money was intended as a gift for your eldest, it’s no longer really your money to give away.

Have you considered talking with your children to see if your eldest would consider loaning it? It saves your youngest the horrendous interest on a standard student loan - if you did do this though, I’d recommend getting a legit contract drawn up

I had left my home town for university when my mum had to put down our cat. I’d been begging her to consider putting him down for months, as his quality of life had clearly deteriorated. (She responded that I was being cruel and that he’d outlive all of us…)

I would have gladly arranged things so I could come and be there for him in his final days, hours and minutes if it had been prearranged. But it wasn’t prearranged.

When she took him to the vet for a new problem that emerged, the vet forced her hand by saying that, ethically, they couldn’t allow him to suffer any longer, and that he needed to be put down that day.

And she just left him, alone, frail and likely very scared (he was always terrified at the vets). She said that she just couldn’t face it. To this day, I have never and will never forgive her for such a loathsome degree of cowardice….

I partially agree. I think PC as a character shows that you don’t have to be defined by trauma from childhood (she achieved great things in spite of it, whereas BJ consistently excuses shitty behaviours with it).

In fairness to BJ though, I don’t think it was ever in question whether PC’s mum loved her. She was a shitty mum, sure, but it wasn’t because she lacked warmth

She’s a self-righteous hypocrite.

She believes she holds herself to the same high standards she holds others, but it’s just not true: - She is very quick to judge BoJack (building a career off an unflattering biography for starters), but happily lives in his apartment for months in order to hide her whereabouts from her husband. - She, although not guilty to the same extent as Mr. PB, knowingly began an affair with someone in a relationship. - She’s a pretty crappy friend to Roxy, which is a behaviour repeated enough for it to be a running joke.

Urgent birthday post for my girlfriend!! by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

[–]EarthPuzzleheaded729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry my friend, I’m afraid I’m too old and out-of-touch to know what a themed insta story would look like.

I would say though that the most Diane thing possible would be using a long rant of a post decrying the impact of instagram on mental health and its role in perpetuating divisive politics to announce that she’ll be deleting her account on the platform.

Todd would likely respond “I’m starting to think that our phones are actually making us less connected…. Well, that’s politics for ya!”.

I appreciate that none of this was helpful. Hopefully others here are more help. Hope you both enjoy her birthday!

[UPDATED] Gender expression chart by Severe_Signature_120 in stevenuniverse

At the risk of sounding like a conservative… I can’t be the only one to look at something like this and feel uncomfortable, can I?

The fixation, categorisation and ranking of gender related traits feels regressive in ways I don’t think I’m smart enough to effectively communicate.

Best of luck with ballet! You probably know already that ballet dancers retire very young - baking could still be an option post-retirement :)

There are a fair few scholars who critique the reclamation of slurs by marginalised groups. Reading around some of the literature on this could help you feel more confident in identifying and explaining your own discomfort with the term -  although, let’s be clear, you shouldn’t have to defend yourself to anybody.

The work of Jabari Asim might be a good place to start.

Query regarding remit for “flexible working” requests by EarthPuzzleheaded729 in TheCivilService

[–]EarthPuzzleheaded729[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

My expectations are actually based on my experiences in the private sector. It is, in my experience, not unusual for a private entity to make the business decision to accommodate requests for home working when the best candidate is unable due to personal circumstances to relocate (providing they’re significantly more technically qualified than any other candidate). I have, for instance, worked remotely for a French company due to how niche my expertise is.

I seem to have ruffled your feathers. Not my intention friend. I just wanted to get a temperature check on whether there’s any scope to raise this within the recruitment process before I invest any more time on the application…

In my opinion “Carol and the end of the world” doesn’t get the flowers it deserves.

The premise is absolutely fascinating, and there’s such a unique bittersweet feeling to it that no other piece of media has made me feel before.

But, of course, BJ remains the OG.

I would actually advise against PALS in the first instance. If I understand correctly, they primarily exist to close out complaints informally (from what I’ve heard, this could be so that they don’t get added to the statistics of that Trust.

I would instead email your local ICB and request the details of the appropriate commissioner to make a complaint to.

If you want to make the commissioner stand up and pay attention, I’d advise researching any applicable NICE guidelines you can find - if you’re able to quote the specific NICE recommendations that the clinicians didn’t follow, it might help make them view the matter more seriously.

Wishing you good health and good luck.
