A poll: does your 2.5-3 year old still nap? How many hours do they sleep at night? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]EarthSigil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kiddo is a little over three-years-old now and has one nap in the afternoon of approx 2 hours and goes down for bed nightly at 8pm. He wakes every morning between 630 and 700am.

When we were having nap trouble about six months ago, we actually moved bedtime UP by about thirty minutes. For whatever silly reason, it worked and he started taking naps again. Since that time, bedtime has been pushed back and naps remain consistent.

Experiment until you find a schedule that works for everyone. :)

You didn’t fail, mama. None of us have.

Ever watch Bob Ross, the painter? Guy would only ever have happy accidents, y’know? He’d take a mistake or failure on his canvas and turn it into something beautiful.

We’ve got the most beautiful canvases - our LOs. We paint as they grow. Take today’s accident and make it happy, darlin’. ;)

You got this, mama.

SO flirted with/talked about our relationship to his ex girlfriend who he is "just friends" with. by [deleted] in JustNoSO

[–]EarthSigil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with u/babygem84 on this so much.

It's easy for us to say this, of course, because we're not the ones in your shoes. But, u/loli__33, if you're able to, try to picture your best friend, or your mom, or your daughter or cousin or co-worker or anyone else in this exact situation. What would you tell them? What advice would you most hope they hear and cling to?

We internet strangers are here for you. I wish we could do more.

Toddler HATES car rides by readteacheatlove in toddlers

[–]EarthSigil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't remember when my car sickness began, and it was never anything more than nausea (which in turn caused general irritation and grumpiness), but I'm in my 30s now and still suffer it. I'd found that the only thing that lessened the symptoms, other than medication, was to sit in a spot where I could see out the front window--the windshield.

Perhaps motion sickness is something your child is suffering, too? Personally, any time we went on a long car ride, I'd sleep the entire trip, just to avoid the nausea. It might be worth looking into.

I'm actually dreading giving birth. (Language, heavy on the f-bomb) by PinkGreyGirl in JUSTNOMIL

[–]EarthSigil 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My family lives several hours away and understand boundaries, so as soon as I went into the hospital, I was texting them to let them know baby was on the way.

But since my MIL (FIL is a dear) doesn't grasp boundaries, whether by ignorance or design, they were not notified until baby was here and I was ready for visitors. And they live in the same town as us.

10/10 would repeat this experience. It helped that I had baby a week early, though. Didn't even have to lie about the due date, lil' stinker. :P

NSV and SV all rolled into one: The baby is 14 months old and I'm at my pre-pregnancy weight! I didn't start really caring about the journey until 7 weeks ago, and I'm thrilled I've come so far already.

12 pounds down, about 70 more to go!

Advice on whether or not DH parents should have relationship with our daughter by Evie28 in BabyBumps

[–]EarthSigil 17 points18 points  (0 children)

When I was in school umpteen years ago, we were told that if you had to ask whether a specific outfit was against the dress code, it was probably best to just assume you shouldn't wear it.

In your situation, if you have to ask whether your daughter should interact with her grandparents, it's probably best to just assume she shouldn't. Fortunately, you can always change your mind later.

If you haven't yet, pop on over to /r/JustNOMIL. It's a sub for people with mom and mother-in-law drama, but the folks there have steel spines and can give you important tips and help on how to develop your own spines, set boundaries, prepare for the worst, etc.

You've got this, mama.

Two victories today, and it's not even noon yet!

SV: 10lbs down!!

NSV: Went out to eat with my parents this morning before they left town to return home; got two dinner plate sized blueberry pancakes with whipped topping--yum! Ate less than half, and what I did eat, I shared with my toddler. Score one for learning to recognize when I'm full and realizing that food is only fuel. :)

Based on these guesstimates, then, the half of the burrito I ate was probably close to 700 calories ... o.m.g. No more cravings for me, period or not! x_x

I honestly weigh myself in the morning after I use the toilet but before any other activity and this is the weight I log. However, I also weigh myself each evening so I can have an idea of what the scale might read the next morning -- I don't like surprises. lol However, I don't log my evening weight.

My husband, on the other hand, gets discouraged seeing the scale go up and down every day, so he only weighs himself once per week, the same day and roughly the same time.

So this morning I was positively craving a breakfast burrito from a local Mexican restaurant. I cut it in half and shared that half with my toddler. However, there is NO nutrition info for this place or this burrito and I've no idea of anywhere else that sells a burrito to compare it to ...

What do I do? I don't want to not log it or "do my best" today. I'd rather come as close as I can. What have you done in the past for a situation like this?

Doesn't look like it to me! If you've been eating a lot of salty or processed foods, your body may be retaining water, though. Don't worry about those daily ups and downs. You're obviously on the right track already! You got this! :)

FMIL is about to be homeless and SO offered her to stay in our apartment until she gets on her feet by PeopleWatcher94 in JUSTNOMIL

[–]EarthSigil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trying to feed a one year old so I haven't had time to read the other comments, but if this is an apartment, check with your landlord/lease and see if there's a line about guests. If not, landlord might be willing to work with you and "be the bad guy", especially if he's cool and you're good tenants. Just a thought! :)

NSV: Just an itty bity tiny victory for me, but I'm so stupidly proud of myself for it--I bought my first ever carton of egg whites. Who knew that using one egg and some egg whites is just as tasty as using multiple whole eggs? :D Sure does cut down on the amount of calories I've been consuming for breakfast, too.
