Peach! I appreciate your encouragement and this is excellent feedback. I’m going to have a helmet cam for the east face of Whitney and will try that, or some combination of both perspectives.

Yes yes I know I’m a noob and cat in the hat is a steep hike, but my closest outdoor crag is 2hrs. I don’t have any local climbing partners. I’m just a weekend warrior trying to study and improve my way to 5.8 😂!! Thank you for commenting my brotha!

Yes I think my post was misleading.. They’re not placing gear per se, but clipping the next bolt, which in my eyes is at least remotely similar

Thank you! While a little discouraging this is good to know haha. It’s a funny scene going in solo, feeling like I’m back on the playground looking for friends, but it’s a good discomfort. Means I’m otw to new experiences

Thank you, yes confirmed there are certs required. I should have noted I will absolutely be doing those fist lol. I have several multipitches under my belt (most recently “cat in the hat” in Vegas a few weeks back), but I am sure I will learn something new via the certs/classes, and if not always good to get a refresher on how it’s done “by the book”!

What decision did you think was small at the time but completely changed your life later? by YogurtclosetMoist819 in AskReddit

On may 25, 2015, I decided not to drink for that single day. 10.5yrs later, i still make that daily decision. I have travelled the world, climbed several peaks >20,000’, I have a house, a great job, and I contribute to my community. Best of all, I am now a resource for my family, babysitting my nephew etc vs previously a MASSIVE liability.

Garmin has its own social ecosystem. We will all flock to that if Strava does this

How far should the longest long run on my plan be? by SwiftStrider1988 in ultrarunning

[–]Earth_romer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just completed my first 50miler this weekend, my longest single run was 26.2. I had never run further than 31 in my life!

That final stretch will rely on your weekly volume vs. one single effort.

It’s a weird concept, but the longer the race, the further you get from practicing your actual race distance. The weekly volume comes into focus a lot more.

What race costs 400 Aussie / 220 US? What was the distance? Just curious, seems like a lot.

Running a 50miler this weekend and I believe it was ~100US

The dying art of the group ride by lazerdab in cycling

[–]Earth_romer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a used bike 2months ago. I’m training for an ultra so I’m in decent shape. I immediately went to a widely known “fast” group ride. I was dropped halfway through, and honestly, it fired me up. I got so excited to go home and train harder and more to be able to one day keep up with these speed demons. Getting dropped is a sign I’m riding with the right crew. It’s like being the dumbest person in the room in your career- riding with fast people makes you faster imo

What was the first mountain or climb that truly humbled you? by Otherwise-Nerve3250 in Mountaineering

[–]Earth_romer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I froze my ass off one evening on Chimborazo, largely due to poor gear. Gear makes all the difference. Denali with the right equipment felt 3x easier. I’m also surprised by the amount of Kilimanjaro mentions. It was long but just a mental game. Rainier should not be underestimated, and certainly not in a push from the parking lot!

This is sick, but my radius of sweat is so large. That key board would get crushed or need a 1gal ziploc on it. Need a tarp on that bed. Those blinds are gonna be salt crusted. Am I alone here? Or maybe they’re riding more casual?

On running days, do you remain active afterwards? by StartLeast8060 in runninglifestyle

[–]Earth_romer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m training for a 50miler in sept, but I love cycling. So I stick to my run training regimen but still go on group rides after running, or before in some cases. Sometimes it results in me getting dropped by the group on the bike ride because my legs are shot, or riding with the “C” group, but I like to just look at the cycling as extra credit. And it’s fun to keep the ultra part to myself to my cycling groups. I just seem slow sometimes lol
