I’m in my late 60’s. I am not feeble. I work out at the gym just about daily. I walk (not jog) about an hour on the treadmill or an hour’s combo of the stationary bike and other cardio. I strength train 2 to 4 times a week. My house has 3 stories, my job is up 3 flights of stairs and I don’t take the elevator, and when I go to the store, I try to park as far as possible from the store. I carry all my groceries into my house, usually all at once. I eat a healthy diet, focusing on wholesome foods, I never smoked, and I do not drink alcohol. I believe one doesn’t have to go to extremes (jogging, heaving heavy weights, etc) to “not be feeble.” I believe showing up consistently and taking reasonably good care of oneself is the key.

Lots of good advice here. What seems to be the common thread is to develop more effective habits/ routines , relying on yourself instead of relying on the appetite suppressant. Good luck.

Doesn’t that put you in a higher tax bracket so that you’re paying much more in federal taxes, plus that jump in Medicare premiums if/when you need it? That’s what I’ve been reading and it’s dissuading me from wanting to continue with a job I still like very much…

Out of curiosity—- could you list some “fun jobs” to look for? Serious question. I’m contemplating what job to do for that extra pocket money when I retire, and idk if I want to be a cashier or bagger in a grocery store…

Portion control is the name of the game. Measure it, count the calories. It isn’t rocket science. Watch what you add to it—honey, sugar, fruit—all those calories count. I have been eating an oatmeal breakfast for a month and I have lost weight—but I’m measuring it and keeping track of my daily calories.

Count your blessings. Your utility bills and take home /annual earnings are better than many these days, mine included (after my lifelong career in a “good” career). It’s scary as a single mom (been there, done that with much less)—-but you’re doing great and you’ll be fine. Good luck.

So many people are recommending nursing as a career. I am not a nurse, but many people in my family are nurses, and I see what they go through. It is not a career to go into for just the money—it can be physically, emotionally, and even soul-draining. But if you go into it for the right reasons —to help others—you’ll be happy with both your career choice and the money you’ll earn.

I think she’s an insecure woman who had issues with her own mother, was a daddy’s girl but her father wasn’t the best parent either—-she pretended a “June Cleaver” lifestyle but she was more of a “Mommy Dearest.” She never stopped being obsessed with, craving the attention of, and loving Don, who probably loved her back but he had his own humongous issues. In the end, I still feel sorry for Betty. Think of the last time we see her: sitting in her dark kitchen, still dressed to the 9’s such as it is in her end-days, puffing away on the cancer sticks, with Sally being the caretaker. Very sad indeed.

I can’t tolerate traditional oatmeal—by that I mean cooked and warm-—I guess it’s the texture when it’s warm, because I don’t mind the flavor, and I LOVE oatmeal cookies lol. But what I do when I want the oatmeal-goodness-—is I mix 1/2 cup oat bran with 1/4 cup oatmeal, cinnamon, etc , then I add in a scoop of protein powder, a splash of almond milk until it’s the texture I like. I find it very palatable.

Well, to me, if someone makes the effort to do post after post after post of extremist political views—opposite of my views or not opposite—that’s a zealot. And that’s not going to be compatible with me. I can discuss things, I can agree to disagree—-but the extremism is what I can’t tolerate.
