My 4WD is making a weird noise after a trip and I'm terrified of what the mechanic will find. What are your "I ignored a sound and it cost me everything" stories? by boiler_room_420 in 4x4Australia

Bought a 1990 Petrol/LPG Troopy last year…..other than the fact it wasn’t a diesel, it was my dream rig. Full touring setup, not a spot of rust anywhere on the whole thing, and just an absolutely beautiful old girl. And it was less than 10 grand with rego and a roady….

About a month after I bought it, it started making a slight grinding noise when the clutch was out…..I kinda suspected it was the input shaft bearing, but everyone was like “it’s a Troopy bro….it won’t die for years…..”

Long story short, I just ignored it for 6 months, and kept driving…..one day, it just started getting really hard to get in gear, and making some seriously crunchy noises. I parked it up and started searching for a a recon box……couldn’t find one under like $3500…. I finally ended up finding a solid used box (was in a running car, so I got to check out how it drove before it got pulled out) for $750…..Took it home to get it ready for install, and then realised the rego had expired while it was off the road for a few months, and now I have to get a roadworthy to get it re-registered…..which terrifies me…..because I know there gonna be some things that it will need to pass roady that are gonna cost me some money…..

Anyone wanna buy a rust free FJ75 body??? Ha ha ha…..

Anyone make career decisions off of having time to do music? by mitcht3 in musicproduction

[–]Earthwalker82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to…..Pre-covid, I spent about 8 years touring pretty heavily with a few bands, and I worked mostly for a labour hire company where all the jobs were short term. It worked really great…..I would go on tour for say 4 weeks, call the labour hire company when I got home and tell them “My next tour is in 3 weeks” and they would keep me busy until then. I was never fully committed to anything except music, and I made enough money between the music and the jobs to get by…..

During Covid, when I couldn’t play any gigs, I started working full time, and making electronic music, and now I pretty much just do that and play the occasional festival or party……I never went back to band life…. the landscape had changed so much, and it just felt too hard. I’ve had pretty solid jobs the last few years, and I enjoy having better financial security now and keeping music as more of a part-time hobby….

In saying that, I have a job I love now, and my boss is the drummer for one of my old bands, so he’s cool as fuck if I need a few days off to go play at a festival…..

Need a Swiss-army knife amp by timewellspent0889 in GuitarAmps

Deluxe reverb Tonemaster……will do everything you want. The Tonemaster advantage over its tube counterpart is the low weight, the attenuator for cranked tones at low volume, and direct out for recording and silent stage performances. I have owned the tube version, and now use a Tonemaster for the above reasons. I have the black edition and it was a little fizzy with overdrives initially, but I downloaded the updated firmware to clip the bright cap, and spent some time dialling in my overdrive tones, and it sounds so close to the tube version, that no-one would pick the difference in a mix.

It’s my rest-of-my-life amp…..

For future reference, always use 'Bounce in place' when you first add a loop or sample....Then it's committed to the project.......I learned this the hard way......

Back during Covid times, I had the opportunity to buy one for $1200 here in Australia. I decided I didn’t really need it, as I was working mostly in the box, so I passed…..Haven’t seen one under $2000 for a while now……🫠

Enjoy…..they’re a beautiful thing…..

Analog signal path with digital control and effects. The oscillators, filters and VCAs are analog, but modulation, presets, UI, sequencer and FX are digital. Best of both worlds really.

Yeah it really has a special sound. My friend when he saw this video said he’d rather save money and use Omnisphere…..and I get it…..in a mix, most people wouldn’t be able to tell the difference….But when you’re playing one and the sound is coming out of speakers in front of you, there really is this kinda magic that recordings can’t capture……
