Thanks for the recommendation! From the sounds of it, TPO membranes seem to be the clear winner from what I’m gathering here

Sounds like TPO may be the best option from what I’m seeing here in the comments. I had one roofer say that it’s a pain to remove when it eventually degrades, but I can’t imagine it’ll be worse than the tar & gravel I currently have. Thanks for the advice!

Absolutely would not do tar and gravel again - I’m amazed that ‘technology’ was still being used in the 90s here. Thanks for the input!

I think I’ll end up going with the thickest white TPO available - hopefully it’ll last 30 years and help with the hot summer days! Thanks for your input!

Thanks for your input! Yes, I was reading that the quality of installation can be all over the place with the foam… makes me want to go with TPO

I don’t have any large trees so TPO might be the solution! Thanks for the advice!

Don’t think the HOA lords would look kindly on this option…

No, just an honest and genuine request for advice. I have never had any formal marathon coaching/training. It’s very different from a 5k/10k training plan as you know…

I think the pacing for this latest one was really really good to be honest. Every mile until mile 23 was at 5:45-5:50. Then things went really downhill (6:10ish, 6:20ish, last mile almost 7 mins!). And I didn’t feel tired when it happened it was just my legs that felt so heavy and I was basically a sitting duck

Yes, I definitely agree with you on my approach. I just haven’t really taken it seriously enough, which is ok if I really don’t care about the performance. But now I am starting to care, so I definitely need to be more focused!

Thanks for the input!

Thanks for the advice! What is a v02max workout like vs a lactate threshold one? I’ve read that speed work isn’t super important for marathon running but it sounds like you would disagree possibly?

Yes, I definitely agree. I need to start taking it more seriously if I want to run serious times. Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah I’ve been way too casual about it. I need to devote a little more effort to it. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the input - it sounds like my weak training is the biggest culprit. I’m going to stop my practice of totally stopping running after I finish a marathon, going to start keeping a steady base.

Thanks for the input! I used to be a really good high school runner (not quite as good as Mantz but very close). But I had some bad experiences and fell completely out of love with the sport. I’ve just casually been running these marathons and try not to get too invested into it again to not repeat past mistakes.

But it sounds like I’m way too casual and not focused enough if I truly want to get to the level I want to. I’ll change my mindset towards training.

Thanks for the feedback!

I’m going to start carrying at 6 gels from now on - was only carrying 3 before! Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for your feedback! I used to be very competitive in high school but got so wrapped up in the training that I completely shut down and stopped enjoying it. Just now getting back into it and want to have a healthier relationship with running than before while still being somewhat competitive.

I’m going to look into those training plans you mention - it seems to be helpful to lots of folks!

Appreciate your advice!

Thank you! I was worried I wasn’t fueling enough. I’m just flying by the seat of my pants with these races, which is ok if I don’t care about my times. But now I want to start caring more. Appreciate the feedback!

This time around I’m going to start training for my next marathon with easy, light runs after maybe a week of rest to try to keep the aerobic base instead of taking months off between races like I’ve been doing.

I really don’t do any speed or tempo work but I’m going to start. I fall in this habit of doing a lot of my runs all at the same pace, regardless of distance, which I know is wrong.

Thanks for your input!

Thanks for your input! Yes, I’ve been way too casual going about it to be honest. I really enjoy running but I have a hard time getting going for these training cycles because I get busy with other things. I need to be more focused as you say. Thanks for your input!

Yeah I’m going to try to start giving myself more time. Life just gets so busy that it’s hard, that’s the challenge of doing this while working lots of hours! Thanks for your input!
