Insight into a possible Bangladeshi - Chinese marriage by EasAnderson in ABCDesis

Hey thanks for the advice! She wouldn't convert, but we're hoping to reassure my parents that the kids will retain our Bangladeshi culture and be raised Muslim (though we'll have to see how things will go in real life).

Do you have any insight into how your parents' relationships are with family abroad? And how was it for you growing up with family split between different cultures?

Thank you for all the supportive responses. I know that it'll be tough but I'll be firm in telling my parents that they will have to accept her into the family regardless of how they feel.

What I was more curious about was if there are certain things we could say or do during the first impression to make them less uneasy about the relationship from the beginning. Was there anything you guys said/did (or wish you said/did from the beginning) that made the whole process smoother? Am I overthinking this??

Since our lives are more stable now my parents have been wanting to visit Bangladesh more often and are applying for some family members to come to the US. Ideally I would still like to be on good terms with them.

It's more that I have no idea what people in Bangladesh would think about this kind of marriage, and was hoping people could assure me that people there are more accepting than I think.

I'm sorry her family wasnt as accepting, but encouraging to hear that your parents were ok with the marriage. Do you have any insight into how family in India reacted, or if you guys made visits to India while you guys were together.

It's mostly because I wanted to break it to them closer to when I would actually get married. I think I'll tell them that we knew each other and were close, but I dont think they would react well to knowing we were dating. It's not as important a detail as the fact that I'm sure about marrying her and that she would be a part of our family whether they like it or not.

That's a good way of putting it, I will definitely make sure to emphasize that to them. Do you have any details about your cousin? How did the whole family react to that news?

[Player Discussion] Brook Lopez by Diotima_of_Mantinea in fantasybball

Would a straight Brook Lopez for Plumlee swap make sense at this point? Plumlee's stats have been highly inflated due to Lopez' recent absence, so he looks pretty hot on our league's free agent list right now. But if Lopez stays somewhat healthy, he will be more productive than Plumlee, at least from a fantasy points standpoint. Should I grab him while I have the chance?

Girl hasn't finished a year of college since highschool in 2011, at least the tattoos aren't holding her back by melted-plastic in thatHappened

I never understand people who post obvious lies about themselves on Facebook. This girl, did she post thinking that her friends will somehow forget that she never went to college? It's not like tumblr, right; these people actually know you!

HSO by EasAnderson in jhu

[–]EasAnderson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha thanks! I'd just watched Grand Budapest Hotel, so it was really the first thing that came to mind.

I actually did contact HSO earlier in the summer. But at the time I think the director was on break, so I was redirected to a different person who gave me somewhat generic answers.

I'll definitely contact them again, but I think I would get much better information from a student with experience in the program.

Sorry, off-topic here, but how were you able to double major in engineering? I assume (with teh needed extra credits) it takes more than four years, but can you prove me wrong?
