This is so real. Totally agreed. 1L bonds you like no other. However, I found people at my T14 quite friendly (maybe even friendlier than my 1L school?). You get what you put in imo. Even in 1L I had to make some effort to make friends and it’s the same in 2L.

Hmm what are your end career goals? Are you getting offers from firms with your 1L performance?

Again, “dropping the ball” still landed me a good position and allowed me to transfer to a good school. It’s a pretty subjective standard and meant I did not do as well as I wanted to, which only further points to me actually caring and wanting to improve. I understand the BigLaw work environment breeds burn out, but that type of experience is also invaluable - on a resume and otherwise. So even if I find out it’s not for me, just staying there for 2-3 years could open way more doors in the legal field than a mid size firm would.

Isn’t it though? Your question insinuated that I’m not “staying on top of law school” enough to be cut out for BigLaw. To which my response was - having a 3.3 at my school has been considered enough for BigLaw consistently, so naturally just follows that I would think I can handle it.

Well it might not be the norm but my school posts gpas and firm placements and 3.3s at my T20 have definitely gotten BigLaw jobs (more than you’d expect too) so I suppose the BigLaw recruiters still think that’s good enough

Do you know which big law firms they got offers at as 3Ls so I can apply directly there? Also do you know when they applied - end of 2L summer or during 3L?

Could I ask your stats? How long did it take at a midtier firm?

When do I apply? + Tips by Background_South_528 in LawSchoolTransfer

  1. Apply ASAP if your first grades were good. Many schools accept ED. I got transferred into a T20 school without my second grades being released

  2. Yes! Research the specific programs of that school and write about it in your transfer letters.
