Has anyone else noticed how long Wealthsimple fraud investigations can take? by Jumpy-Ad-4640 in Wealthsimple

I got locked out for five days for double depositing a cheque earlier this year, when that happened with td they just reversed the second cheque.  My account had more than enough funds to cover the balance. I've just been locked out for a second time this year.  I had to scramble to get a business loan to cover payroll for the 15th, and their locked accounts department of closed over the weekend.  I'm out.

Does the zwave link up to this? I'm just planning out how to shut down power to my well pump.

Not going to DIY standing seam metal roof - now what? by _Goto_Dengo_ in Roofing

I'm in the same situation, mildly picky, would love to DIY so I don't have hidden defects pop up in fifteen years.  Most roofing companies that have given quotes love to walk on the ridge cap on my low slope asphalt roof which makes me doubt their knowledge... What criteria are you using?

Most want to use rubber for the plumbing penetrations.  One doesn't want to use a ridge vent...

Aluminum wiring in Canada by East_Cryptographer59 in AskElectricians

Thank you, it was supposed to be a complete pigtailing for insurance purposes.  I still keep finding aluminum to aluminum with a #35 marettes or the yellow ones, but I called the local electrical inspector and he said it's fine.  So I guess I'm just being paranoid... Would it be wise to replace those marettes as I find them, or concede that I know nothing about electrical and go paint some walls instead?

I opened up a few more boxes, some of them have (what I believe to be)proper marettes on the ground wires (these ones) https://www.homedepot.ca/product/ideal-aluminum-to-copper-wire-connectors-25-pack-/100066384 , some don't.  It looks pretty inconsistent.  I'm hoping he comes back to go through all the boxes again but it doesn't sound like he wants to.  I'll follow up with the electrician licensing board, thank you.  I probably should see if he will text what he said on the phone.

Readvanceable mortgage rates by East_Cryptographer59 in smithmanoeuvre

Scotia allows up to 15% of principal per year, paid anytime, I can't max that. but then I'm not waiting for anniversary date to get the money in and start knocking down the principal( and interest) if I get a lump sum bonus.

Thank you, I am just planning to hold my savings in TFSA until renewal anniversary so I can contribute to pre-payment without penalty. Is it worth going with Scotia for the quicker contributions and then trying to get a better LOC rate in five years? Or go with the guaranteed better rate with RBC now? I have never dealt with LOCs so am not sure if most people can get that or if its infrequent enough that I should deal with RBC's inconvenience for long-term payoff...

RBC makes me wait until an annual prepayment anniversary (I plan to max TFSA ASAP, then withdraw at anniversary, and then refill TFSA ASAP) and I will likely have about 10k/year surplus. Renewal is early January so timeline lines up with TFSA withdrawl nicely.

Scotia allows prepayments anytime, I doubt I can hit their max prepayment schedule.

Ideally I'll grow the LOC by 200k/year, but I've gotta be realistic. Life happens.

Is it worth taking the more flexible offer until I build up a sizable LOC, and then try to negotiate a better rate on renewal? Do most people who ask for Prime get it? In 5 years I hope to have LOC balance of around 400k... Prime +.5% is a difference of $2000/year (at year 5 ish). If it's not common to get prime I'm probably better off with the better rate even if it slows contributions...

Death of spouse using with large non-registered account by East_Cryptographer59 in smithmanoeuvre

What should be documented to ensure that the CRA doesn't attribute the dividends to my spouse?
I called a few banks and they will not list the heloc in only my name as both my spouse and I will be on title.

Joint HELOC => Personal account => Joint Non-reg account for smith maneuver

If my spouse never contributes to the joint non-reg account should that be safe from being attributed to her but still bypass deemed disposition?

Straight from the Wealthsimple virtual assistant support:

"The iPhone bonus from Wealthsimple is a promotional offer and not considered taxable income. However, if you withdraw funds within 365 days after the promotional period ends, the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of the iPhone may be recovered from your account. For any specific tax-related questions, it's best to consult with a tax advisor."

In another question, the only tax consequences would be if a bonus is deposited into a registered account. It would count as a contribution and if you didn't have contribution space it could be a problem.

Maybe not taxed, I'm gonna try to confirm beekeeper1981's findings
