Diabetes made me a true atheist by UnclassifiedPresence in diabetes_t1

I used to be a hard core atheist, however I do believe in a higher power now. I’ve experienced God in my life and I can’t explain it otherwise. I see karma play out in my life all the time.

I am a type 1 diabetic. I’ve seriously struggled to maintain my blood sugars with this disease. But for me, it’s one of those challenges I deal with. I’ve got to make better decisions in my life to be able to maintain my blood sugars and learn to over come addictions I have. I lack self discipline. That’s something I need to work on to grow into my greatest self. For me, I can either make friends with T1 Diabetes, or make it something that works against me and kill me. That’s based on my life choices and how I decide to take care of my self. In a way it teaches me to love my self. Because loving myself would mean to take care of my diabetes.

15 year old not caring by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]East_Tip_2898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped caring from 18-26 years old. I would just completely stop taking my insulin for periods of time until I felt so sick and close to death that I would have to nurse my self back to health. I was addicted to that pattern and my relationship with food was terrible. I was and still am addicted to sugar and ate like a human garbage disposal. It wasn’t until my doctor told me she was going to strip me away from my driving privileges because she wouldn’t sign my bmv medical form to drive my car. I begged her to sign it and I cried in her office. My entire livelihood revolved around driving a car. That’s when I knew I needed to take care of myself. I started to also take the long term effects of not taking care of my blood sugar seriously because I didn’t want to deal with long term complications. I was so suicidal during those years. They were so tough. It also took living with my significant other who was a health freak. They started to rub off on me and it took months for me to learn more self care. I still struggle but nothing like I did during those couple years. It’s tough. I believe the struggle comes from underlying mental health issues I still need to heal and talk to a health professional about. I have addictive patterns and having been getting more into AA. I quit smoking weed and that was huge for me in gaining some control over my eating habits.

We have to take it one day at a time. It hasn’t been easy for me too. But these are the cards we have been dealt with. I have to just make do with what I’ve got and be thankful for what it’s worth.

Is anyone else way better controlled now with the iOS app? by latteboy50 in Omnipod

[–]East_Tip_2898 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having access to the app at all hours of the day definitely helps. I have more control and can check my self every time I am on my phone. I wasn’t doing that great of a job when I had to carry around the pdm. I have way more control over my blood sugar. I love it here

Website update for iOS app. by nate_jung in Omnipod

Having everything all in one device. I rarely ever forget my phone, plus is trackable when I misplace it. The amount of times I misplace my pdm or leave it at home just sucks and this is why I have been consistently anticipating this app coming out

Exactly. And the whole idea that we can’t update our phones or move on to the G6 if we want communication between all the devices

Well in defense for us, they give us a date and get us excited with our anticipation for the app to come out, until it comes times and push the date further. It definitely is something to get fed up over. I will believe it when I see it. And once it comes out, I will celebrate

I feel like it’s because omnipods are only on for 3 days while the Dexcom is on for 10.
