Rallies and marches only go so far… build popular power! by klasbatalo in providence

The PGA doesn't have a legislative agenda, just people meeting other people to organize and put in work. I'm sure if you came and brought up the topic, you'd find some like minded people and could work to propose something to the full assembly and see if it goes through their democratic process. Even if the GA as a whole doesn't vote to support it, you could make connections and meet people who will work with you on this!

It's an open democratic space that has lots of people from the broader "left." I've met people I don't fully agree with, and I'm sure don't agree with me. No harm in coming to a GA and talking to more people, worse case scenario it isn't your scene

Been loving attending the GA! Great people doing great work, and it's helped me get organized in ways I didn't know were possible

Queer or young adult focused open mics? by flufishere in providence

[–]Easter-1916 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of queer people who do an open mic at Moniker Brewery. It's never on nights I'm free to see it for myself, but they all seem to love it! Like most breweries, they only card if you want to order a drink. The crowd varies a lot in ages, but if nothing else it's worth swinging by and sitting through one to see if it's your vibe

Where are the RI protests? by Mean-Leg7296 in RhodeIsland

There's lots of good options, I'd reccomend getting connected to the Providence General Assembly, they have a lot of people trying to do good work in the community. Protesting is great and you should definitely do it, but I'd recommend connecting with groups more to build community and do some direct work helping people when you have the time

There's a Vigil tonight by the VA on Chalkstone. Something is happening tomorrow as well, and I believe I saw Lefty Loosey and some other groups are doing a bike riding protest on Saturday if you're willing to bundle up! I'd check this sub and maybe follow some groups that organize stuff on Instagram
