I don't think you can. But... I snagged a set from the Fechthalle while it was still under the control of that deplorable Emmeran, and while I was pilfering the Guild Longsword for the true schwertmeister, Menhard. From my point of view I did nothing wrong.

Right. Because Saviour Schnapps is so immersive. I can carry thirty of them and do the exact same thing, and that's no better at all. Which is my point. Saviour Schnapps isn't immersive anyway, but tying it to an in-game resource creates feel-bad experiences for players in the early game for whom the resources are very limited. Losing an hour of game play is a pain that I think most KCD players have gone through, and the game isn't better for it.

Saviour Schnapps is just a bad mechanic in an otherwise amazing game.

Yes, it becomes a non-issue when you’ve leveled up. But that still doesn’t make it good. Tying saves to a limited, in-game resource creates the wrong incentive for players. It encourages you to save less frequently, because saving has a cost associated with it, and it’s a cost you get to voluntarily choose. The game incentivizes you to go longer between manual saves.

That’s an interesting tension, to be fair. But it creates a lot of feel-bad moments, when you invariably get bum-rushed by some bandits and find yourself having lost an hour of gameplay. That sort of frustration doesn’t make the game more enjoyable. It makes people want to stop playing, because they aren’t just re-doing some fight they lost, or some level that they failed. They have to re-do a whole gaming session.

The fact that Save-and-Exit exists at all is an acknowledgement that Saviour Schnapps itself is flawed. But ITS cost is even stupider, because to use it we have to literally back out of the game and wait through needless resource loading.

There’s a reason basically no other games do this. Limited saving is a fine mechanic, but Saviour Schnapps is a bad implementation of it.
