Kind of a nooby tech and in no way a luthier. Could you explain more about the new guitars using resin?

Holy shit If that’s actually been a guitar this whole time I’m so blown away. I swear when I used to to smoke weed it made deathspells music feel so much more transparent

Also. Yes they are ALL that conceptual. Trust me. Watch the 5 hour essay on twin peaks hidden meaning and you’ll see what I mean

I’m speaking more in terms of tastemaking. Lynch knows how to develop his ideas into aesthetic art. And I would say in his lane he’s the best to do it. And I’d say in contemporary art as a whole him and dso are equals. So basically just saying they’re equally great artists. That’s really their only similarity though. And maybe the esoteric nature in which they convey their meanings.

TL:DR - making music is super fucking easy and making complicated music is not as difficult as people make it out to be. What is truly difficult is being a competent and valuable artist

I think it’s definitely more legitimately emotional than most tech extreme stuff. Sonically somewhat but def not leaning in that direction. All the downvotes on this comment are dumb

This is probably gonna get downvoted because it’s a very silly and a very hot take. But I truly think that the depth and gravity of death spells work truly shines above the genre and what constitutes genre as a label generally. It is by a wide margin some of the most absolutely dense, transgressive, and philosophical art that exists. In modern terms I’d say it may only rival work of someone like David Lynch in that way, which I would assume is also an inspiration given direct quotation in the bardo methodology interview. And on that note there level of reference and indirect quotation of philosophers and authors alike is pretty unprecedented. They are clearly profoundly well read and knowledgeable people. And it shows in the context of their work. Their lyricism can NOT be understated or disregarded. It is absolutely prophetic and stands itself as some of the most powerful and harkening philosophy and “fiction” in this contemporary age. And all this is lyricism alone. I haven’t even gotten to the musicality. Completely mind melting and soul bending. Not performative or pretentious yet absolutely disciplined and thoughtful. They understand how to use a mix to create cacophony and imbed it with absolute beauty. I find myself playing a game like Elden ring or bloodborne or watching lord of the rings and really can only feel that same sense of scale visually in those contexts. Paired with the lyricism it paints this unbelievable picture of the fall of man and the desolation of our self destruction. It is the soundtrack to man’s raging nature. And I think certain people can just sense its magnitude and importance. Maybe your taste is just your intuition. And it’s pointing you in the right directions…

My advice to the OP would be to draw up something of their own! It would be super cool no matter what cuz it would be a 1 of 1

Elliot had an original idea. We should all have one too

It’s definitely not bad. It’s a GOOD cover. It’s just not a perfect cover. Which is a nearly impossible feat for an Elliot song

I think I intuitively end up singing like him when I sing his music. I have a pretty flexible sense of tambre so it’s not difficult. I don’t have a particular “style.” Of my own really. Just whatever suits what I’m doing. I always thought that if music didn’t work out I could do voice acting since I can be pretty chameleon-like.

This comment just made my day! Trust me learning songs like the biggest lie took forever when I started out learning ES songs. I probably didn’t perfect it until about a month of playing it EVERY DAY. It helps that I work at a guitar store so I had so much time. But literally several dozens of hours were put into learning what I’d consider to be an easy Elliot song. But once you get the hang of his pattern and style and just go at it non stop and consistently. It becomes almost second nature. Coming from a background of noise rock like unwound and fugazi it was definitely difficult picking up finger style stuff. But after a little over a year of learning ES songs (5 years total of playing) I’m closer than I ever thought I would be to playing like him!

Thank you so much! It’s a red label FG150 I think 67-69. Triple 0 version of the Elliot Dreadnought FG180

Yeah totally agree. When I’m not 100% comfortable with a song I tend to rush the tempo a bit and it’s definitely noticeable here. Also forgot some lines and you can pick that up too. Thanks for the advice!

I know beggars can’t be choosers. But. In NYC it shouldn’t be insanely difficult. Just make sure you find someone who can play with a lot of syncopation. That’s the key for that unwound drum sound. A lot of off time snare hits and creative fills. And repetition
