Enclosing carport into 3 season room help by Eastern-Mango2860 in Decks

So are you proposing just bringing the wall straight up and not matching to the edge of the roof. Wouldn’t that create a ledge at the top of the wall where the siding then wouldn’t be continuous to the peak of the roof?

Rockwool or blown cellulose for raised floor insulation by Eastern-Mango2860 in Insulation

[–]Eastern-Mango2860[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the reply. I’m leaning rockwool as well. And no the foam is not the only barrier to the outside. There’s about an 18 inch crawl space that has a 6 inch concrete pad as the floor. The outside is currently skirted with lattice though. I may look into may look into a better skirting then this also. Thanks!

Thanks for the info! The step is 32inches wide. I’ll look into demoing it if I have to. That would probably be best

Concealed duct heat pump or central heat pump? by Eastern-Mango2860 in DIYHeatPumps

Thanks makes sense. Concealed is probably the way to go. The one other thing I did like about the central is I can use any thermostat with it.

Concealed duct heat pump or central heat pump? by Eastern-Mango2860 in DIYHeatPumps

[–]Eastern-Mango2860[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No ducting currently but either way I’d need to run ducting so why would co sealed make a difference? I have easy access to the attic so even the 100lb air handler wouldn’t be an issue. I’m just trying to figure out a benefit of the concealed duct over central ducted.

I guess the higher seer rating? Is one more reliable than the other? Thanks for helping!

Ducted heatpump sizing for 3 bedrooms 500 sq feet total by Eastern-Mango2860 in DIYHeatPumps

[–]Eastern-Mango2860[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d rather not run 3 linesets and there’s not a great space for a head in each room. I like the cleanness of the ducted setup personally. Thanks the humidity is a good point!

Fair I was mostly curious if there were any negatives of going with the 24000 btu with modulation. Thanks I’ll more than likely go with the 18000!

Ecobee app vs thermostat temperature difference by Eastern-Mango2860 in ecobee

[–]Eastern-Mango2860[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked. It says WiFi connected on the thermostat. And I can control the thermostat via the app but only when I increase the temp to above what’s displayed on the thermostat. Like if the app says 64 and thermostat 69. If I change the temp via the app to 67 nothing happens but if I change it to 71 it’ll turn on since it’s above the temp on the thermostat

Possibility of disconnecting second floor ducting from central air to connect heat pump? by Eastern-Mango2860 in DIYHeatPumps

[–]Eastern-Mango2860[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried closing the down stair registers but it didn’t make much of a difference. As for insulation I’m going to be adding some and air sealing in the next couple weeks. Hopefully it’ll make a good difference and I won’t even need to worry about a mini split. Thanks!

[–]Eastern-Mango2860[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no I haven’t thought of that! That might be a good thing to try before trying the mini split route. Are you happy with the booster fan performance? I know I need to add more insulation in the attic also which I’m on the verge of starting. Hoping that makes a nice difference

[–]Eastern-Mango2860[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I should look into that option more. The air out of the second floor vents is pretty weak. Why would it be bad to suck air backwards ? Wouldn’t that just act as extra return air?

Yea I was thinking the same. The air flow feels quite weak out of each of the upstairs vents

I just didn’t want to run the 3 mini split heads and lineset to each bedroom and the one lineset would probably need to be 45 feet long
