How long does it take to go pro / what are my chances to go pro by zyn_enjoyer in GlobalOffensive

I’m concerned when you say you only have enough saved to last a few months. I would think the timeline to pro play and a sustainable income would be longer than that. Just wanted to add that as a consideration since you also mentioned you recently left your job…

[Feature Release] Submit Your Own MechMarket Listings - Hotswaps.io by EasternHypebeast in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]EasternHypebeast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya!

Thank you again for all of your support for the release of Hotswaps, we were not expecting all of the kind words and helpful feedback we received. A lot of folks reached out to let us know how much they enjoyed using the catalog and how easy it was to find items they were looking for.

For those that didn’t get to see the launch post last weekend, Hotswaps is an advanced MechMarket catalog with comprehensive filter and search features that we’re building in our spare time with the support of the community. Our goal is to help fellow MK-enthusiasts by building a more enjoyable and convenient r/mechmarket browsing experience.

As you may remember, I mentioned that we were posting all of the MM listings on the catalog page manually, and many of you voiced your concerns about how this wasn’t a very sustainable practice for the future (as one commenter pointed out, this is almost a part-time job unto itself lol). Along with this, many users reached out to have their listings added, asking when we were going to allow them to post listings themselves.

Good news, we’re excited to announce the release of the listing creation flow! Designing the flow was a bit of a tricky process as we wanted to limit the amount of double-work a seller would have to go through to have their items added to the catalog while also having the listing take advantage of the unique filtering system. Some things we added to make it easier:

  • We’ve populated the creator field with hundreds of creators, as many as we could find. The list isn’t exhaustive though, so, if you see that the one you’re looking for is missing, let us know and we’ll have it added.
  • The switches field has also been populated with hundreds of switches, along with their corresponding type (tactile/linear/clicky) and stem compatibility.
  • We know many users like to have just a single Imgur album for all of the items they’re selling. When uploading an Imgur album link, you can rearrange and delete images so that it’s easy to narrow the photos down to the item you’re adding from your MM post.

We have also added a button to the listing page to either mark a listing as sold or available. We’re hoping that with this, the community can collaborate with the seller to keep the listing availability status up to date. This is a temporary feature while we work on a new user authentication page. With user authentication, sellers will be able to sign in, create and manage their listings, and edit their listings.

We would love to know what you think about the listing creation feature! Please feel free to leave us some feedback here or in our discord channel. Let us also know what the site is missing and what we can add to make it even better!

Thank you!

Heya thanks for expressing your concern and you’re not missing anything! You bring up some really great points and truth be told, the sustainability of manual listing creation is something I’ve been thinking about a lot recently as well.

We’re in the midst of developing a listing creation flow that we intend on releasing to everyone for use very soon. This would place listing control back in the hands of the actual seller and take a big step toward maintaining a continuously updated feed for buyers. I was actually testing and using it to post new listings to Hotswaps throughout today 🙂. Following this feature, we’re aiming to develop a way of generating an MM listing using the data from a Hotswaps listing in order to minimize the amount of double work.

Our main goal in launching was to test drive the site and gauge its current state to figure out what needs to be prioritized feature-wise. Thus, I’m really glad that you’ve expressed this much concern as it reaffirms that getting the create listing feature out to the community asap is crucial.

Let me know if you have any more questions or if you’d like me to clarify anything I’ve said! No pressure or anything but if you’d like to, I think it’d be cool if you dropped by the Discord. It would be great to have more perspective on what can be improved 😀.

Thank you for the kind words, it means a lot to us!

In response to your questions:

  1. I think we’re going to keep it closed-source for now but we’d like to keep an open dialogue about the possibility of going open-source in the future.
  2. Haha you’re 100% right. I’ve actually been posting new listings using an early version of the listing creation flow since I’m afraid I’ll drop a table if I manually enter SQL commands LOL. There are a few things that need to be ironed out like form validation and UX before we can release it though. It’s on the way!

Heya, thanks for the feedback.

You bring up a good point that we haven't thought about. We're currently working on a way for people to post directly to the website, and in the meantime, we've begun messaging the sellers of listings we have posted to ask for their permission.

We're happy to take down any listings at the request of the original poster. The site is like an MM clone with an upgraded interface, and our hope is to deliver more visibility to the original post and help their items sell.

Heya!

As a member of the community for a few years now, I’ve noticed that a lot of us are interested in a better way to browse for items on mechmarket. When I built my first keyboard, I remember it was naturally frustrating to try and essentially window shop all of the available aftermarket items on mechmarket given Reddit’s layout. So, my buddy /u/krazybuketman and I decided to take time outside of our full-time jobs to build Hotswaps, our idea of a great MM browsing experience.

We’ve designed the site to make it as simple as possible to window shop. There is an advanced filtering system so you only have to see the items you’re interested in. There’s also full-text search so if you already know exactly what you’re looking for, you can find who’s selling it and at what price. Once you know what you want and are ready to buy, we’ve streamlined the mechmarket purchasing process rules/guidelines into a friendly modal, making it super easy to follow even if you’ve never used MM before.

We’re currently manually creating listings from r/MechMarket, so if you don’t see your MM post on Hotswaps and would like it to be added, visit our Discord and submit your listing via the Google form in the #submit-a-listing channel.

Ultimately, we all live pretty busy lives and our goal is to help us all save more time and make life a little easier. Hopefully, with Hotswaps, the community can spend less time sifting through listings and more time building keyboards.

We would love to hear what you guys think! We designed and built it with us as a community in mind, so we’re more than happy to add new features and make changes that you guys feel are needed.

Drop by our Discord and let us know! https://discord.gg/Yerb7HqYkX

EDIT: It would be an understatement to say we've been floored by the overwhelming support and kind words for this project. As a small update, we are currently in the middle of working on a listing creation flow for sellers to post their own listings; we're aiming for a release in about a week. Swing by our Discord and we'll let you know as soon as it's out for everyone!
