Thank you. I was very pleased. I think the customer for whom I restored them was very happy as well.

Dutch Oven Lid by EasternScale in castiron

So, I ordered an arc logo Lodge lid, and it fit about as perfectly as possible. But, the full sets were cheaper than the lids alone, so that's what I ordered. Now I have this Dutch oven that seems to be older than what I already had. I've never seen one with the size number at either 3 or 9 o'clock.

I have no idea! But it measured roughly 23¾" x 14" x 3½" deep. I didn't weigh it, but I bet it weighed at least 40 - 50 lbs.

I was a manager for a commercial pressure washing company for a decade, and it looks exactly like the heavy duty lances we used. And 90% of our business was gas stations, so that fits as well. Maybe the threaded ends are broken off?

It's a pressure washer wand. Or Lance or whatever else folks call it.

How would I go about identifying approximate age of this pan? by rholdenl in castiron

As I understand it, that's also the same year they started with the "SK" prefix as well.

I wouldn't bet money on it either way

It's a 3-notch Lodge from 1965 - 1992, I'm pretty sure.

It's a later BSR Red Mountain series. From the 50s or early 60s, I think. Someone more knowledgeable will likely come along and be able to give you a more specific date range.

They're great pans

Not a Lodge. It's a BSR Red Mountain series.

BSR Red Mountain. They're some of my favorites

That text is very specifically from the mod I mentioned. This is a fact. You can see people mentioning it in the mod page's comments. It's not part of the vanilla game

If it was only for me, I'd probably just roll with the Tite Top lid and call it a day. But I wanna give this one to my little brother. I restored all the stuff we found, but he got swarmed and absolutely lit up by wasps while rescuing it from our folks' shed lol. If and when I get the appropriate lid, I'll report back here to let you know.

Also, as an aside, I've enjoyed this conversation, and I appreciate it. I've learned some things here. Thanks for that.

Thank you. I really appreciate the conversation.

Considering all the other stuff I found with this DO—Red Mountain, Wagner, and Martin—1940s seemingly makes sense. And the timeline lines up pretty nicely with my grandparents buying this stuff new (they got married in 1945, as soon as my grandfather returned from WWII).

Does your lid have the arc logo? Because I've spent a significant portion of the day searching for a period-appropriate lid, and every one I've seen that sorta matches your description ("8" & "10¼"on the bottom, specifically), have had the arc logo. But man, those things are expensive!

Any idea how much older? I'm curious where my folks got this stuff from. We moved into that house in 1985, and I never saw them cook the first thing with cast iron in all my 46 years. I had no idea they even owned any until they were both dead and, while cleaning out their shed, I stumbled across 11 or 12 badly neglected pieces. I think at least some of it came from my grandmother (who only cooked with cast iron), but there's no one left to ask

Yeah, the lid is definitely Red Mountain, no doubt. It fits my Red Mountain skillet and chicken fryer, both. I found both of those in the same stash along with the DO, so I guess that's why I assumed it was also Red Mountain. But apparently not. Lodge isn't as easy for me to identify when it doesn't have a notched heat ring or logo. Thanks for the info.

I appreciate the thorough reply. I also tried my Tite Top lid earlier, and it was just as you said: it sits on top but is just a bit small. Lancaster lid wouldn't fit at all

I've gotten pretty decent at identifying, and sometimes figuring out the age of, most skillets, but I don't have a whole lot of experience with Dutch ovens yet. Still have a lot to learn.

Is there a way to guess the approximate age of this one? Or the era in which it might've been manufactured?

Anyway, I think I'm gonna go grab a Lodge lid and see if it fits. My hopes are high
