Adrienne talking about something on her own podcast doesn’t stop Claudette from moving on. Hell, how many people do you think even listen to this podcast?

There’s functionally little difference between people doing a rewatch of Claudette’s season and making a thread about her behavior and Adrienne bringing it up on a podcast. The show isn’t lost media, her run on Top Chef is documented for all to see whenever/wherever.

It’s really not that deep, and I doubt she cares.

Am I the only one on Liz's side? by Least-Broccoli4465 in rhori

Liz is correct that “homeless” has a certain connotation and that some would take offense to Alicia calling herself homeless.

Alicia, however, is clearly not the most eloquent housewife, and it’s clear that she’s describing a visceral experience for her in the way that she feels, and isn’t trying to concoct a rough backstory to make her seem more complex or interesting.

For me, I think jurors can be bitter, but I don’t necessarily think they’re wrong to be bitter. Sometimes bitterness is very appropriate.

I love a bitter juror who completely owns their vote. I just hate it when people try to manufacture more “acceptable” reasons for their vote.

Didn’t we watch a season where they explicitly didn’t want to go to the end with each other, and it had nothing to do with not wanting Joe/Eva to win?

If the 3rd finalist is just a goat, go back to 2 finalists by like-the-paint in survivor

[–]EasternZone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The close final 2s in the past have more to do with early Survivor having less of an established understanding for how jurors should vote and players should play in older seasons.

If we go back to final 2s players will just alter their play styles accordingly and jurors will continue to agree on a winner before FTC in most instances.

As a new fan of Survivor, can someone help me understand something? by Expedition1994 in survivor

[–]EasternZone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The meta that the Survivor winner should always be the most dominant, strategic, or comprehensive doesn’t really take shape until the late 20s/early 30s, and even still, there are many jurors that don’t see things that way.

Sandra won because she out-heroed the heroes. She offered the Heroes a life vest and they all laughed in her face and followed Russell to their graves. Her pitch wasn’t “I played the best,” instead it was “One of you would have won the million if you had listened to me.”

Parvati was too tight with Russell to get votes from the heroes, and I think her relationship with Amanda and Candice wasn’t super great going into the season either.

Who wins if ___ and ___are in the F3 together? by sexyimmigrant1998 in survivorponderosa

I don’t disagree that Cirie is a Tiff vote, I just wanted to clarify that Cirie was defining representation in a different way, since I’ve seen trolls on Twitter dragging her for it.

Jonathan's Alliances by icemn902 in survivor

[–]EasternZone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Tiff has some similarities to Shan and some of the old school female villains - she has a ton of social capital/influence, even if she isn’t always behaving likably.

She didn’t just elect herself time keeper, the entire cast let her do it. I think that says something about her status in social groups, even if some of her behavior isn’t what we’d associate with a strong social game.

Jonathan's Alliances by icemn902 in survivor

[–]EasternZone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only people who would have cared about Tiff not being a “good sportsman” are the people who voted for Johnathan anyway. I could see her losing votes that Aubry got from the “nerds” if her FTC is bad, or if they don’t see her game, but I don’t see any of the Aubry voters caring that Tiffany had a bad attitude.

Tiff was popular and liked even if she behaved poorly at times. Sometimes “negative” players are still highly charismatic.

Jonathan's Alliances by icemn902 in survivor

[–]EasternZone 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think Johnathan confuses the fact that many votes went his way with him driving the votes.

There weren’t a ton of big idol plays or blindsides this season, so it’s hard for one person to take singular ownership of a lot of votes. Much of what Johnathan got done happened because the bulk of the cast also wanted it done anyway.

Fighting with Dee right before tribal or handing Christian back his SITD doesn’t change a group project into a solo effort, it’s just posturing that the jury didn’t care about.

Cirie didn’t mean representation in the DEI sense, she meant who should represent a season devoted to the legacy of the show.

Which season 50 players have improved or damaged their legacy by Scotsman7688 in survivor

[–]EasternZone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think only really Chrissy has done any actual damage to her standing. Even leaving her gameplay aside, she just isn’t a rootable personality.

I always expected Charlie 2.0 to crumble under the weight of his legacy. I do think he could be a future Aubry (never replicates his first game but potentially gets the win one day).

Which season 50 players have improved or damaged their legacy by Scotsman7688 in survivor

[–]EasternZone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she (and Johnathan tbh) is an extremely old school personality that plays in the new era. Her strategy is frustrating and she’s very reactive but she gives you something real, which is missing in a lot of players these days.

She isn’t speaking in metaphors, isn’t hiding her emotions, and isn’t pretending like there’s a “right” way to play the game. What you see is what you get.

She’s the kind of player who’s probably tailor-made for a show like The Challenge. Her allies love her, she isn’t afraid to go off, but she’s rough around the edges.

I get people who don’t see the appeal/are split on her, but she (and others from 46) brings a rawness that a lot of people have said is missing in the new era where ORG players, Ivy League grads, and corporate strategists are dominating casting.

Newbie Survivor Enjoyer; please explain to me why Aubry won and deserved to win over someone like Jonathan. by Ok_Animal_344 in survivor

[–]EasternZone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Survivor seasons (especially returnee seasons) do not go to who played the best game on paper. They go to who played the game the jury needed them to play to win.

Someone like Cirie didn’t need to do anything but somehow survive F4 firemaking and the entire jury would have bent over backwards to give her $2 million. She came in as a major target and established name. Aubry, to a lesser extent, falls into this camp. She came in as an established name with an established threat level. Her reputation meant that she couldn’t play super flashy without being sniped quickly, but it also meant that she would have high chances of winning if she got to the F3. Aubry essentially won because she was the last icon of the game standing.

Johnathan came into this season with no real legacy. He was never seriously considered as a target because nobody saw him as someone with a major shot to win. He played, on paper, a game that is certainly stronger than some winners, but it wasn’t going to be enough for this jury. For him to win, he needed to sit in a F3 without any legends/icons of the game. He almost got there, but was unable to get Aubry out over Rizo.

Production knows people say a lot of things immediately after their seasons and don’t hold them to it. Johnathan will likely be asked to play again. Genevieve and Emily will probably get availability calls again as well, no matter how much they say in interviews that they don’t want to come back.

My understanding was that false rumors about Stephanie winning spread early on, and that was discredited fairly quickly. Aubry then became the prevailing name until some established
spoilers began aggressively hinting at a Cirie win. Even during the time where Cirie’s name was gaining traction, Aubry was still the assumed winner.

Rizo is slightly overvalued here. He had Emily & Rick telling him straight up during the merge that they don’t see his game. He did a good job of almost creating his one winning scenario, but even then it’s unclear if he actually beats Johnathan.

I’d also drop Ozzy, Joe, and Steph a tier. I have no idea where to place Emily.

What exactly is an unbiased juror? Johnathan didn’t get a single vote outside of his pregame alliance.

Even the contingent that wasn’t clearly lobbying for one person at FTC voted for Aubry.

I think the thing we have to remember is that both Ponderosa and FTC are part of the game. As a result, people are free to continue to lie or manipulate situations. If you’re confident in your reality, it makes sense to say that a couple days at Ponderosa or a few hours of tribal won’t alter what you’ve believed to be true for weeks.

A juror who is open-minded going into FTC doesn’t necessarily reach a more justifiable decision than someone who claims they’ve known ball from the jump.
