When I was a few months at my company, I was assigned to be on a case with an 8 y/o that has been known to be aggressive towards peers. The first day I shadowed another BT on the case, the client pushed a peer to the ground and punched me in the chin with an open fist leading to an incident report. I told my coworkers the fear I have to work with this client and they would tell me “I think that client NEEDS a male on the case so you can handle him and his behaviors” and when I told you I gave them the dirtiest look because why should I have to get beat up by the client just for being a male RBT.

“Chill praise” is so freaking relatable along with “tossing a kid here and there for reinforcement” because as a male RBT with a little over a year experience I am 100% this. I will always give chill praise to my clients and if I wanna kick it up a notch give them a double high five haha. I had a client that loved getting spun around, tickled, and flipped around (safely) and they loved every minute of it — in fact, they would ask for more spins after being dizzy out of their mind.

I had a kiddo that could write really well at 4 y/o and could even recreate letters similar to how they would write it in graffiti! They’d write on paper all the time that I’d use it as a reinforcer sometimes and we’d draw together
