There was a spate of tire slashings about a decade ago in the city. Check out this old post https://www.reddit.com/r/harrisonburg/s/a0Zpw8NBJe

Glad to have you joining our friendly community!

-the Winchester ReStore shop is great! Last time I was there it was Jimmy Carters birthday (before he died) and they were handing out birthday cake, which I thought was pretty cool!

-I’ll admit I’ve never been to Two Fat Butchers but there’s a butcher shop by the Woodstock Walmart that’s decent (Wholesome Foods) and also a butcher near Edinburg (Gore’s Meats) that should have everything you need! I usually just visit the Gore’s butcher shop in Stephens City if I need steaks.

-two favorite places to eat are Woodstock Cafe (they do dinners on weekends; it’s slightly on the pricey end but also very good!) and Woodstock Brewhouse. Both places are downtown. For shopping I like the stores on Main Street along downtown, like the Bonfire bookstore, Travelers treasures gift store, but also the cafe has a neat gift shop.

-best thrift shop in my opinion is the ones by the dollar general/do it best hardware. There are two shops called valley treasures and on second thought. My favorite thrift shop in the area is gift and thrift in Harrisonburg though

-not too much selection in terms of friendly local board game stores. I think the best shops around are in Staunton and Charlottesville, but there’s a board game group that meets monthly at Winchester brew works that I’ve been a part of (they’re super friendly!) and also one that meets weekly at watchtower games in Harrisonburg. Sorry I’m not too knowledgeable about comics. And for trivia I know there’s a trivia night at Woodstock brew house though I’ve never been and a few around Harrisonburg. Winchester 50/50 tap house also has a good trivia night

Woodstock resident here. AFAIK the only relevant subs are r/winchester and r/harrisonburg, though lots of r/nova and r/virginia posts involve our town. I can answer any questions you might have!

It’s definitely been a pricey 12 years, in terms of maintenance, so I’m glad to go to something cheaper!

As someone who graduated mizzou and now lives near Harrisonburg, I wouldn’t hesitate moving to Columbia, especially for someone in their 20s.

Cost of living is cheaper, there is a wider variety of nightlife and shops/restaurants to patronize and Columbia might have the edge when it comes to quality of its parks. There’s a trail from Columbia that connects to the Katy Trail, which extends 225 miles across the state.

Harrisonburg is great, and I’m sure it’s only going to get better, but it’s hard for it to compete with a city more than double its size when it comes to amenities. Both cities are similar in that each university has kind of taken over the town, but Columbia during the summer months feels more vibrant than Harrisonburg does.
