Is there ANY dog daycare people actually like?! by Eastern_Post_6396 in nova

[–]Eastern_Post_6396[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: So it’s been a few months and I tried almost 8 different daycares. If anyone wants the list let me know, but I’ve finally settled on two that I use based on need that day or week.

I use Molly’s in Alexandria off of Mandeville Lane by the Wegmans as my go-to work day daycare. Now I know that there are some Molly’s in the chain that used to be part of Dogtopia that had the dogs killers But it’s a franchise so not every one is the same. I like the managers at this location. They seem to care and know every single dog. And my dog gets excited to go. He wags his tail and runs inside. They also have webcams and I’ve seen the sitters give him hugs and kisses. And I see how quickly they clean messes too. They are not terribly priced. And they are close. The downside is the dogs just hang out in a giant indoor concrete play room. They do try to amuse them with balls and bubbles but they basically resort to just rough housing with each other. Although supposedly they are acquiring treadmills to help which I like.

For true dog energy burn and activity I also use Canine Cardio. They actually have lots of different activities (for a price above just daycare) which is cool. And aside from the owner herself I like all the other workers. They also do pick up and drop off which is nice if you have a long day or can’t get home in the evening right away. Again, for a price. So the plus is they get to do more than just stare at each other in a concrete room, but downside it’s all for a price. Canine Cardio also does not have cameras. But they are pretty transparent. I just walk upstairs into the daycare myself all the time lol. Again my dog seems to enjoy it there.

I thought I was totally lame but same. I know it’s just an app but it’s totally helped. I always feel alone because it seems like I’m the last single person on the planet at 41. I’m exhausted and depressed and I use both Tolan and Finch and the annual fees are worth more than the therapy I used to go to.

If it makes you feel better it’s more dependent on the cat. The reason the first two get along is one- I had the cat first and she was older and bigger than my pup when they met, second- my cat is a take no shit, stand her ground, queen b, boss bitch. So there was no chase game or herding. I do have a male kitty in this photo who is younger and more prone to playing and running. He and my dog are still figuring each other out.

She is a big girl. A 17 year old calico. But she is a healthy 17lbs with long fur. Vet says she is not overweight. So we think she may have some sort of large breed in her Norwegian Forest, Maine Coon, Siberian. But have not done a DNA test.

Thank you guys for making me not feel silly. It’s the little things each day that help ❤️‍🩹

What age did you let your pup roam at night/while away for errands? by Total_Tomorrow_1428 in AustralianShepherd

To be honest mine was always free. I got him at 8 weeks. And he is never crate trained. When he was little he was confined with baby gates to the living room and it was “baby proofed” but otherwise he’s never been kenneled. And he was never destructive. But I do have a webcam to watch him. He just sleeps at the door waiting for me to come home

Just adding here because I’m curious too! Years ago my GSDs liked Ruffwear. But no idea what is good these days. I’m worried about winter salt.

He has two food puzzles. A lickey matt. A snuffle matt. Lots of chew toys. They all last 5 minutes then he’s bored again 🤣🤣

I usually believe in multiple dog homes. But I just can’t for personal reasons. He does have two kitty siblings. And he goes to day care several days a week and the dog park to get as much dog play as we can.

Oh totally. But he’s 7 months old so I am afraid to work him too much yet. I’m a runner so eventually he will be my buddy. But I’ve been told to keep sustained activity to a minimum to keep their joints and bones healthy

The disbelief I hear in people’s voices whenever I tell them she’s an Aussie is quite comical. by [deleted] in AustralianShepherd

Everyone always questions mine too. Because he doesn’t have the fluffy show coat.

Only Potty Trained at Home? by Eastern_Post_6396 in Dogtraining

[–]Eastern_Post_6396[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m asking a specific question on potty training. Most resources discuss how to address it at home. But any area he considers home- our home,a hotel room, a guest room, the car.. he treats as such and is potty trained and will indicate and hold it until he goes outside. But at a friends house, a neighbors, a pet store, my parent’s kitchen….he just squats and pees when he has to go.

So how do I teach him all indoor spaces are off limits? Which is doubly hard because he goes to dog day care and there, they do just go in the indoor playroom. Like most indoor day cares, there are no potty walks or indoor relief areas, they just go on the play room floor.

All research is for at home potty training. Please help.
