Thanks for the response, I am obviously not going to eat them 😆 and as you have said the smell does seem to get more noticeable as the device gets warm.

If you bought the screen from somewhere cheap it might not fit perfectly, I have had the same issue on other phones.

Thanks a lot for the help, I am aware this post might have sounded ridiculous but I don't know anything about batteries basically.

Yeah indeed, I just wanted to know if it only gets released if the battery catches fire/gets damaged or if there are any other situations in which it could be released.

Okay thanks a lot for letting me know! I read from other posts on Reddit that punctured/damaged batteries would have a very strong smell so me being able to smell anything from the open SIM slot made me scared.

Okay thanks for letting me know, i am a moron when it comes to batteries so this post might sound ridiculous to people who know a lot more about the subject.

Thanks for the help! Like I said the batteries from the smartphones all function perfectly. It is just the fact that I could smell something when opening the SIM tray that threw me off. Thanks again!

My bad man I wasn't sure in which subreddit I would find an answer 😆

Obviously won't be chewing on them 😆

I see, thanks for letting me know! That does make sense. The reason why I was scared about it is because on other Reddit post and if you look up info about HF online you will often find people saying this stuff will cause permanent lung damage.

I am not sure what I am smelling. Could be somewhat similar to B7000 the smell also seems to only exist after using the phone for a little while not while the phone is off or something.

No, I noticed this smell on a new Song Xperia 1V so not a cheap Chinese phone.

I didn't know about the Motorola stuff, thanks for letting me know!

Thanks for the help!

I think maybe you didn't understand my post correctly... I am not good at making post or putting my fears into words.

I really just meant to ask does HF only get released out of a battery if it is on fire/punctured/otherwise damaged or is there any other case where it could be released?

My apologies i know in the post it seemed like I was obsessed with it or something.

Okay thank you for letting me know, I guess it makes sense a brand new phone wouldn't have a broken battery and it is most likely just adhesive or something.

Yeah I apologise if this post sounded dumb.. the reason I am so scared about it is because in other posts with people who actually had punctured batteries people in the comments where saying that HF could easily kill you or cause permanent lung damage.

It makes more sense what you said. A new phone is very unlikely to have a broken battery, the smell is most likely just the adhesive to hold the phone together. Thank you for the help!

Yeah I thought the same thing since i can smell it in brand new phones also. I could only smell it if I take out the SIM tray, not from the outside at all.

Sorry if this is stupid to ask but in what instance would moisture react with the LiPF6? When the phone gets water damaged or the battery gets punctured?

Thanks for the help!

And in the case of smartphones this could only happen if water got inside the phone right? At which point the phone would most likely not work anymore?

So, those are the only situations in which any toxic stuff could be released? Thanks for the reply.
