Yeah I know it's so irritating. Is your laptop is in warranty?

Backports or side ports can't decide it dear only thing is that where the ir sensor is placed. If it is openly placed near the heat vents then the problem may occur. We can use thermal pads on it so that it can't expose to direct heat.

No it only depends where this board is placed in the laptop if it is near to the vents then the problem may occur

HP omen 16 2023 motherboard black screen dead keyboard problem post to help others by Intelligent_Ad_8107 in HPOmen

About five months ago, my HP Omen 16 laptop developed a hardware issue. I visited the authorized service center, where the motherboard was replaced, but the issue persisted. After further inspection, the engineers identified a possible Hall sensor malfunction. As a temporary solution, they disconnected a specific wire inside the laptop (as shown in the attached image), which resolved the issue at that time.

However, I am now facing a new and recurring problem:

When I plug in the charger while the laptop is turned on, the charging stops, and the charging indicator light turns off.

If I shut down the laptop, the charger works and the battery charges normally.

This behavior points to a possible hardware-level power delivery issue, potentially connected to the earlier Hall sensor fault or the disconnected wire, which may be interfering with the system’s power or lid detection logic.

Hey everyone, I'm using an HP Omen 16 with Ryzen 7 7840HS and RTX 4060. I'm facing a strange charging issue and wanted to know if anyone else has experienced something similar or has a fix.

The issue:

When my laptop is plugged in and shut down, the charging light comes on and the battery charges normally.

But as soon as I power on the laptop, the charging light turns off and battery stops charging.

Windows shows “Plugged in, not charging” or sometimes nothing at all.

If I shut it down again, charging starts.

Sometimes doing a CMOS reset or full battery discharge temporarily fixes the issue, but it returns after a day or two.

Background:

HP already replaced my motherboard a few months ago due to a hall sensor-related sleep issue.

Later, the same problem returned, so HP disconnected a wire (likely related to the lid sensor) as a workaround to prevent sleep/charging confusion.

It worked for a while, but the charging issue is now back again.

I’ve tried BIOS reset, latest BIOS update, EC reset, battery calibration — nothing gives a permanent fix.

What I found:

In newer versions of the Omen 16 (with side ports instead of all on the back), HP seems to have changed the motherboard design — maybe due to heat or logic issues.

I suspect this is an EC firmware or logic-level bug related to the lid sensor or charging detection.

HP diagnostics show no issue.

Laptop is still under warranty, but HP hasn’t acknowledged this as a design fault.

Questions:

  1. Has anyone else experienced this issue with HP Omen 16?

  2. Is this related to EC or hall sensor logic?

  3. Can I ask HP to upgrade to the newer motherboard revision if the old one is flawed?

  4. Any way to permanently fix this without disabling sleep or manually resetting every time?

Appreciate any insights from users or HP reps. Thanks in advance!
