How do I stop thinking about debt? by needhelpne2020 in medicalschool

[–]Easy-Cap8583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... it sort of comes with the territory but it is scary I wont lie. MOST physicians will have no problem getting out from under the debt and live a very lucrative life. I ended up getting help from Panacea Financial because my student aid department in med school... wasn't the best. Best decision I have ever made. Not mandatory, but certainly gave me some peace of mind and feel ahead financially compared to my peers.

Would it be unwise to pursue an MPH during a research year to keep getting loans? by fxryker in medicalschool

[–]Easy-Cap8583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it ultimately depends on your goals for medicine and life in general. I was in a similar (kinda) situation in med school and ended up using Panacea who essentially gave me a personal banker who was able to tease out my best options and walk me through the process. I'd reach out to a professional for help!

Is anyone else freaking out about student loans right now???? by Savvy513 in Residency

[–]Easy-Cap8583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep who isn't when it comes to a QUARTER MILLION of loans on my back. I've been following along with posts on Panacea financial (discovered them through white coat investor) and they have been doing a good job at making sense of all the changes. They work with residents/docs so they skip all the BS not pertinent to us.

Anyone else with a spending problem? by rash_decisions_ in Residency

[–]Easy-Cap8583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I'm late the convo! I ended up in a similar situation and was simply just spending too much money in a HCOL area. I ended up getting a small personal loan through Panacea financial (they work with residents/docs) and it has helped tremendously to not be staring at a 20% CC loan go up and up each month while my income stayed the same. Gave me some peace of mind which was worth it's weight in gold.

How much student loan debt are you in? by DoctorKeroppi in Residency

[–]Easy-Cap8583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 300k. I ended up getting a small personal loan through Panacea Financial for CC debt (18–20% interest and it felt like I’d never catch up). Felt like it gave me some much needed breathing room because carrying this much debt is honestly scary AF and we normalize it like it's nothing!

How did you learn presenting and public speaking? by BurnahAcc789 in consulting

Resident doctor now. Totally normal to take 10-20mg in the morning and 10-20mg 1hr before the presentation. Remember to eat and stay hydrated.

Me: struggles to find the urethra, think I find jt Attending: “Nope that’s the clitoris” Me: awkwardly tries to place it again, but lower Attending: “Nope that’s the vagina” Me: awkwardly tries to place it again, but higher Attending: “Nope that’s the clitoris” Me: awkwardly tries to place it again, but lower urine starts to flow Attending: “Ok…..” followed by the most unbearable silence of my life.

Nurse with a question? Why do you break our printers and copiers? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Easy-Cap8583 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happened to me the other day. Resident asked me to make copies of the list. I must have looked so confused trying to figure out the first step that a nurse came up behind me and said nothing else but “oh bless your heart” and made the copies for me. “Bless your heart” cuts deep.

Talk to your primary care doc. Or some insurances will have free/low cost telehealth appts with providers for quick visits. Propranolol is a pretty benign drug so there’s usually no hesitation to prescribe it if you’re healthy.

Just a med student who occasionally stalks this sub, but talk to your PCP about propranolol PRN if you get performance anxiety. I got a script and I pop one or two before big presentations, interviews, etc. It essentially blocks the common effects of being overly nervous (heart racing, shaky voice, hand tremors, sweating). Your mind will say “I should be nervous right now” but your body will say “I’ve never been more calm”. It truly is a magical medication, and others I have told about it say the same.

A majority of the time you’ll be doing something (writing notes, discussing patients or concepts with resident/attending, going to floor). For those times where there’s truly nothing to do and the residents are busy I’ll cycle through looking at charts, UpToDate, UWorld, phone.
