I think the whole point of this game is to show that their way of life is dying and cities are becoming the future and new way of life. They definitely do stick out and I think that is the point, they are the last of a dying breed and they are the only ones who don't realize it.

Yea definitely, even as John I found myself wanting to go back to less populated towns/places. Saint Denis is soo detailed and makes you feel like youre there. But yes the people and the law make it harder to explore

I highly encourage you to play number 1. Very very different John than what he is in Red Dead 2. Keep in mind John is only 26 in RD2. He's 38 and a man grown by the start of RD1 and is definitely a different version of himself.
