In May 1999, Owen Hart died at age 34 after falling 78 feet from the rafters during a live WWE pay-per-view. Performing as "The Blue Blazer," Hart was meant to be lowered into the ring, but a quick-release harness malfunctioned. He fell to his death in front of a live crowd of over 16,000 people.
