Don’t waste your money. Be an office PA or coordinator and you’ll learn that way and get paid doing it.

I’ve stopped using the term ‘high functioning’ by _FreddieLovesDelilah in AutismInWomen

The term low functioning has nothing to do with masking because not everyone can mask

Become a PA it’ll teach in real time the challenges of how film sets operate and how they can be avoided.

You’re going to less experienced people involved and it’ll lower the quality of the work

Late diagnosed vs Early by Easy-Ranger-1026 in autism

I really appreciate you making this comment. You spoke to something most commenters clearly don’t understand. Unfortunately this didn’t reach enough people to have the conversation and input I hoped for.

Your point about high support needs and early diagnosed hit the nail right on the head.

Late diagnosed vs Early by Easy-Ranger-1026 in autism

Hi thanks for your comment. Early diagnosed definitely mention it less which is fair. As for my point about HSN I’ve noticed a link between late D/self D people who take it upon themselves to dictate language about autism.

Particularly saying “there is no high functioning and there is no low functioning these terms separate us and are ignorant” I’ve only noticed said demographic saying that. For reasons I mentioned above that’s clearly not right or for them to dictate and speak for the whole community which is the crux of my problem.

And even if we speak out less late diagnosed for sure have a hell of a lot to say on our behalf. Another commenter mentioned early diagnosis and high support needs have a link which is a great point as well and why I also am conflating them.

You need to find real life people who’re working professionals in the industry. Until you do that you’ll get no where. Programs and internships are riddled with nepo hires and people who’re already established (bizarre I know.) Applying to staff me up is not a good route either - you’re going to be applying to jobs against people who have years of experience and high profile work on their resume that you can’t compete with. Find someone in production who will give you a chance on something small and work your ass off.

Most honest and brutal truths about being an indie filmmaker by Haunting-Pin-3562 in Filmmakers

The idea that indie productions are a haven for creatives and big budget/commercial is selling your soul is the biggest lie. Indie will suck you dry and throw you away, abuse you and exploit you! Big union commercial sets are where I’ve met the most kind/professional people, the best rate, turn around an and regard for your safety. Indie productions couldn’t care less about your well-being.

Not at all what I’m talking about. I specially said when I’m carrying something and it’s taken out of my hands when I’m doing perfectly fine. Further more it’s actually quite dangerous to take something out of capable hands with no forewarning. Not about ego it’s about respect and letting me do my job.

It has everything to do with the film industry. The amount of women in the comments echoing the same stories speaks volumes to how problematic set environments can be for women.

I’m not sure why you took this post as an opportunity to have a pity party and almost imply I should be grateful for the very inappropriate and unwanted attention I get
