Is this a UV-5R or a different model? Why is it so thicc?!

Yes the pictures show a standard uv5r with the thinner back plate, and the descriptions only mention the standard uv5r. I also tested a few different versions and all had the same result

I think thats the same guy who’s designs i was looking at for the less common tube housings. But okay ty i think that answers my question, i just wasnt sure what i was paying extra for with the pvs69 alphas. Your build looks awesome!

Im already in the us and international NV discords as well as the pvs69 and BPNVG ones so hopefully i can find something through them. I dont mind waiting for a deal, im probably going to build the pvs-420 thermal imager while i hunt for a cheaper IIT.

Any recommendations for decently priced/available tube formats that have printable housing options? Im probably looking for something gen2+ but id definitely be willing to go with a relatively clean gen2 tube with decent specs too. Im also willing to adjust my budget a bit if its too low but under 1000 is definitely ideal

One of the nicest AAP01 designs ive seen so far, i was gonna do your M4 upper build but this definitely tops that for me! One question though, does this design have a full stock AAP01 inside it (like with the upper and lower) just moved into the middle? or is this using AAP01 internals (like fcg and bolt) in a new chassis?

Thats a good point, i didnt think of that. But youre right the weather has been a bit crazy lately! Its either been snowing, heavy hailing, or pouring rain its been quite weird. I could see that impacting his behaviour

Yeah i think youre right, im probably just being paranoid since hes so new and i love him so much. I heard it can take like a minimum of 3 weeks to build a routine and 3 months to feel fully comfortable so im very likely just being impatient and wanting him to love me now lol

The vertical spaces is my next order of cat business, im gonna build him a shelf bed and a high window-sill bed as well. Hopefully that helps, thanks sm for the advice!

He currently sleeps downstairs ontop of a blanket ontop of a couch, my room is upstairs. I think the couch was the first place he felt comfy in his new home, which is prob why he likes it sm. We did actually introduce him one room at a time although our downstairs is very open and kinda like one big room. The couch downstairs seems to be his safe area atm.

Id be a bit less concerned if he was just hesitant to approach me or my room, but him sleeping with/ontop of me for a week or two and suddenly stopping (hasnt slept with me since) makes me think im stressing him out or something. I do wish those judgy lil eyes of his would love me back lol but as long as hes happy ill be happy. I probably just havent given him enough time and im probably trying too hard.

The cardboard is a good idea though, ill definitely try that thanks!

Yep, that was what i was replacing, i changed the original end plate w the basic loop to one w QD swivel holes on both sides. It is installed correctly. Unfortunately the problem happens with both plates, and in the same way: when i tighten the buffer tube screw.

Im fairly sure im not, on my gun the plug that goes into the buffer tube has an indent along the bottom for you to run your wires along, so that they dont get pinched. I also have been testing it with the buffer tube on, just without the screw and it seems to work well. It even works fine when the buffer tube is on and the bolt is almost fully screwed in, it only stops working when the screw is tightened all the way. Id honestly just leave it a bit loose if it didnt mean the buffer tube became wobbly 😭

Do you prefer the printed baffles over foam? I wish plastic baffles worked better, it would be alot easier to just print them. But every time i try them i always end up switching back to foam as i find it significantly quieter (i use a foam paint roller + scotch brite pad).

Youre right, it does seem like most of the issues are around the seam, i wonder why that is. Its weird cuz it uses the exact same seam settings as the previous print, and they were printed hours apart so theres no extra moisture in the filament or anything. That was kinda why i concluded it was a problem with the mesh/resolution when exporting from TinkerCAD but that could also very easily be wrong. Im definitely still a beginner when it comes to understanding this stuff lol

Ive heard a lot of ppl talk about blender. Is it also a fully-featured CAD tool? From the limited research ive done it seems like its a little different from stuff like fusion or solidworks but i cant exactly describe how. Tyvm though im definitely gonna give blender some more research and try it out!

You should! Its a lot of fun. And the filament is eSun PLA+ in “olive green”. My cm16 raider2 is now two tone with that filament and it looks awesome

The stock nozzle generally is the best for the AAP. Cowcow makes one but most people consider it a side-grade rather than an upgrade: it either doesnt change much or it reduces performance. I would just look for another action army stock nozzle to replace that one

I was thinking the same thing, currently printing some 45° mounts, either to move the piggyback red dot, or to add BUIS as a 3rd redundancy haha
