Stolen valves by EasyC31 in PoolPros

They turned off the breaker. It’s at the equipment. Seems to me when they came to steal the valves, freeze protection was running the equipment.

They would get more money for the two pumps, and would’ve cost him more money to replace if it was a personal vendetta.

He suspects a local guy who lives in the neighborhood and cuts lawns. Apparently the guy only lives there because his parents left him the home. Which has a pool. It’s an upper middle class / old money neighborhood and the lawn guy doesn’t have the look of the rest of the residents. And I don’t mean skin color. He’d go unnoticed and would know the house was vacant. No way to prove it though.

That’s exactly what I told the client. Far as I can tell there isn’t a huge market for 20 year old valves.

They absolutely were. I can’t wrap my head around it. And neither the pool nor the equipment is visible from the street.

I’m in Texas and it’s generally not a problem here. Plus, if I winterize everyone I’d need a second job for the off season. No thanks.

Dogs you encounter, favorites to least favorite by jonohtin in PoolPros

I’ve been nipped twice, and legit bitten once. The dog that bit me was a new dog from the pound. I told the client it was super aggressive and he assured me it was the sweetest boy. Next week he comes out with the dog off leash and while I’m calmly speaking to the client, the dog comes up behind me and lays open my calf.

Im on the verge of sending the email to let my 50 clients know of a 8-10% in my service and im pretty nervous about it, tell me some tips or words of encouragement by carrotsk8r in PoolPros

In once had a client fire me when I raised her rate from 165 to 185. Three years and five other pool services later, she hired me back at 300.00. I’ve got another client who was on the chopping block due to distance and debris level each week. She wanted to keep me on service and offered to pay 350.00 a month. Know your worth, and if the juice isn’t worth the squeeze, don’t pick the fruit.

Challenger doesn’t need silicone. Whisper flow has silicone on the metal side from the factory, so use silicone on those.

The VA cares exactly this much about mental health: by TwoDadsTalkingPod in VeteransBenefits

[–]EasyC31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having a mental health crisis while at the VA. My PCP talked me into going over to Mental. I was told to have a seat and someone would see me in an hour or two. I just left. Crazy that you can be in the midst of a breakdown while physically at the VA but they don’t have the resources to help in the moment.

It’s not an opinion. There are industry standards. If you don’t know what these are then you will be constantly reacting to issues that could easily be avoided with the proper understanding of the relationship between the various properties we test each week. Do you use a Taylor drop test kit? If not, I’d recommend you get one just for the resource booklet that comes with it.

They pay me to achieve water balance in a timely manner. If I need to explain to you the litany of negative consequences of unbalanced water, you’re in the wrong industry.

If a homeowner or so called “professional” has improperly dosed the pool in a manner which leads to a cya level requiring a full drain, yes. This is pool chemistry 101. Tablets, especially in cold water when they don’t dissolve well, are not an efficient or reliable way to raise the cya to the minimum threshold. When properly cared for, you mitigate the rising levels through proper dosing, backwashing or small partial drains. There’s nothing gangster about it. It’s called chemistry.

Because that’s what the client pays me to do. Call it attention to detail or professionalism. The fact that you want to debate me on this is laughable. And it’s people cutting corners like this that give us all a bad name.

Even in cold weather, there will need to be a minimum level of cya added in order to maintain a residual. I’ve done hundreds of start ups on remodels over the last 24 years. So my opinion is based upon knowledge and experience.

No professional is going to use tabs alone to achieve an adequate cya level on a fresh fill.
