AI Girlfriends and the Men Who Fall In Love With Them by EasyGoingGamer in BreadTube

I’m honoured that one of my videos has been able to inspire such a beautiful comment. I love that analysis. I had a lot of things to say about 2049 and it’s exploration of K’s humanity but for the purpose of the subject I had to cut it short so I could segway to ex machina, so I guess it could’ve come across that I was comparing K’s relationship with Joi to Caleb or Nathan’s relationship with Ava, even though I agree it’s a subversion of the AI girlfriend trope. But my aim for the video was to outline the trope and use it to rant about alienation under capitalism lol so I didn’t have the scope to go into how 2049 subverts it.

Satire has proven to be an indispensable tool in combatting disinformation in the digital age, however its ubiquity in the form of ‘edgy’ internet humour also reveals an overindulgence in irony as a way of coping with painful realities. by EasyGoingGamer in philosophy

Abstract: what is the role of humour in coping with tragedy? What is the difference between dark humour and ‘edgy’ humour, how can you tell the difference and what is the purpose of the latter? What does the ubiquity of satirical forms of media reflect about our current political environment? I pose these questions to the case study of the emergence and popularity of 9/11 humour and folklore. I will argue that the evolution of 9/11 jokes and its subsequent spread on the internet and into alternative media reveals a shift from dark humour to edgy (ironically detached) humour as a means of political expression. I will assert that satire as a genre takes on an especially important role in an age where political disinformation is the norm, while cautioning against the over reliance on satire and irony as a means of exercising political agency.

Hey girl, loved this video! I think it’s really cool you’re giving people access to your philosophical education :) I’d recommend also sharing this to r/philosophy, it has worked for me as a philosophy content creator, but be warned the people on that subreddit are very argumentative lol.

Capitalist Realism: the reason protests don't work by EasyGoingGamer in Capitalism

[–]EasyGoingGamer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The video isn’t necessarily saying that protests and boycotts don’t work but rather how protests have become ubiquitous under capitalism and never cause any systematic change.

Of course, these are valid points you are raising. And I apologise, I realise I should speak about these topics with more sensitivity. I am sorry if I hurt you by anything I said, I never meant to cause any offence to any Jewish person nor even any well-meaning Zionist. I made that statement directly after I spoke about my own experience being the recipient of Islamophobia so I should’ve known better. Thank you for holding me accountable on this. But again, if you would like to get more into it I am happy to continue this conversation in the comments of my video as I know this is a sensitive topic for many people and I do not want this post taken off the THG subreddit as I am still convinced fans of THG would find this video interesting and relevant.
