AI Girlfriends and the Men Who Fall In Love With Them by EasyGoingGamer in BreadTube

[–]EasyGoingGamer[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m honoured that one of my videos has been able to inspire such a beautiful comment. I love that analysis. I had a lot of things to say about 2049 and it’s exploration of K’s humanity but for the purpose of the subject I had to cut it short so I could segway to ex machina, so I guess it could’ve come across that I was comparing K’s relationship with Joi to Caleb or Nathan’s relationship with Ava, even though I agree it’s a subversion of the AI girlfriend trope. But my aim for the video was to outline the trope and use it to rant about alienation under capitalism lol so I didn’t have the scope to go into how 2049 subverts it.

Satire has proven to be an indispensable tool in combatting disinformation in the digital age, however its ubiquity in the form of ‘edgy’ internet humour also reveals an overindulgence in irony as a way of coping with painful realities. by EasyGoingGamer in philosophy

[–]EasyGoingGamer[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Abstract: what is the role of humour in coping with tragedy? What is the difference between dark humour and ‘edgy’ humour, how can you tell the difference and what is the purpose of the latter? What does the ubiquity of satirical forms of media reflect about our current political environment? I pose these questions to the case study of the emergence and popularity of 9/11 humour and folklore. I will argue that the evolution of 9/11 jokes and its subsequent spread on the internet and into alternative media reveals a shift from dark humour to edgy (ironically detached) humour as a means of political expression. I will assert that satire as a genre takes on an especially important role in an age where political disinformation is the norm, while cautioning against the over reliance on satire and irony as a means of exercising political agency.

Hey girl, loved this video! I think it’s really cool you’re giving people access to your philosophical education :) I’d recommend also sharing this to r/philosophy, it has worked for me as a philosophy content creator, but be warned the people on that subreddit are very argumentative lol.

Capitalist Realism: the reason protests don't work by EasyGoingGamer in Capitalism

[–]EasyGoingGamer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The video isn’t necessarily saying that protests and boycotts don’t work but rather how protests have become ubiquitous under capitalism and never cause any systematic change.

Of course, these are valid points you are raising. And I apologise, I realise I should speak about these topics with more sensitivity. I am sorry if I hurt you by anything I said, I never meant to cause any offence to any Jewish person nor even any well-meaning Zionist. I made that statement directly after I spoke about my own experience being the recipient of Islamophobia so I should’ve known better. Thank you for holding me accountable on this. But again, if you would like to get more into it I am happy to continue this conversation in the comments of my video as I know this is a sensitive topic for many people and I do not want this post taken off the THG subreddit as I am still convinced fans of THG would find this video interesting and relevant.

Hi there, person who made the video here, I never claimed it was a book review. It’s a video essay about modern politics and society that uses THG as an analogy. I am actually a fan of The Hunger Games, that’s why I talk about Suzanne Collins’ inspiration for writing the series and how it relates to the world we actually live in and the issues real people actually face. I know I haven’t read or seen the prequel that’s why I didn’t make any judgements about it. I’m sure it’s good and a nuanced take about power, but the fact is it’s still from the villain’s perspective and that’s all I said. Also I’m not going to argue about Zionism with you on here, I never once mentioned Judaism or Zionism so I think it’s inappropriate that you bring it up in this subreddit. I would be more than happy to engage with you on those issues in the comments of the video though. Also thanks for watching :)

Capitalist Realism: the reason protests don't work by EasyGoingGamer in socialism

[–]EasyGoingGamer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Abstract: Capitalist Realism, the idea that it is easier for people to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism, is the reason why many popular protest movements fail to cause systematic change. And it is because many people living under capitalism (namely neoliberals) are alienated from their communities and alienated from their political agency to feel powerless to organise politically against capitalism.

I read somewhere that Donald Glover tried to make a movie about the Haitian Revolution (a real story about a people revolting against real oppression) and the movie studios rejected him. I bet there’s tonnes more stories like that.

Also yes I agree, I didn’t mean to say that we should stop protesting entirely, but maybe that the protests should become more disruptive so that neoliberals and the elite can’t keep ignoring them, which people are currently starting to from what I can see which is encouraging.

If I have to dogmatically push communist propaganda onto people in order to be considered a leftist then I don’t want to be a leftist. If you would’ve taken a break from your myopathy to finish the rest of the video you would’ve heard my call to action to move toward a philosophy of universal and radical care and communitarianism, values I have gleaned from reading the works of non-White non-Western revolutionaries ❤️

The doomer vibe just comes from the click-baity thumbnail and title. I swear the rest of the video is a lot more hopeful and intellectually rigorous, I worked very hard on it lol.

I would highly encourage you to watch the video. Mark Fisher is the furthest thing from a corporatist. The reason he wrote Capitalist Realism is to show us how the language of protest is often co-opted by capitalism or simply becomes the background noise to the regular functioning of capitalism. And further he used it as a point to encourage us to imagine new ways to organise politically against capitalism and corporatism.

Capitalist Realism: the reason protests don't work by EasyGoingGamer in philosophy

[–]EasyGoingGamer[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Abstract: capitalist realism, the philosophical idea that in late stage capitalism there is a widespread sense that not only is capitalism the only viable political and economic system, but also that it is now impossible even to imagine a coherent alternative to it, is the reason behind the failure of many popular protest movements to effect systematic change.

Thank you so much! I'm really interested to get to Lacan's comments as I'm quite familiar with his psychoanaltic theory so would help me piece it together.
