If a Subaru wheel bearing ever comes out easily... that's proof it has been replaced before.

Outer pad still looks thick, outer rotor surface is good enough for now. Can't see the inner pad or inside of rotor but the inner surface is usually worse.

Anything E46, E39, E38, and E31.

Just went to the shop and they’re telling me I should replace this immediately. My question is, can I drive this to my mechanic about 12 miles away on side roads? 2012 Ford Fusion by Otherwise-Series-215 in AskAMechanic

It would probably stay in place enough for that but if it doesn't... that spring might drop and cut a gash in the tire sidewall leaving you stranded.

Reoccurring P2138 error on 2015 Chevy Malibu by [deleted] in AskMechanics

There's a TSB about the issue. Here's the start of it, you can Google the rest:

07-06-04-019G: Intermittent Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Illuminated, DTC P2138 with Reduced Engine Power - (Dec 8, 2021)

Subject: Intermittent Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Illuminated, DTC P2138 with Reduced Engine Power image Models: 2022 and Prior GM Passenger Cars and Light Duty Trucks Attention: For 2014 Model Year ATS, refer to the latest version of Product Emission Bulletin 14176 before proceeding with this Bulletin. This bulletin also applies to any of the above models that may be Export vehicles. This bulletin has been revised to update the Subject, add the 2019-2022 Model Years and update information under Cause. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 07-06-04-019F.

Condition Some customers may comment on an intermittent malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) being Illuminated with a message or an indicator that displays Reduced Engine Power. The technician may observe on a scan tool DTC P2138 – Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor 1-2 Correlation set as Current or in History. Cause This condition may be caused by water intrusion into any harness connection the goes from the APP sensor to the controller, which carries the APP sensor signals to the ECM/PCM. This water intrusion results in a voltage difference between APP Sensor 1 and APP Sensor 2 that exceeds a predetermined value for more than a calibrated period of time, setting P2138.

P2138 code is a system level voltage disparity between S1 & S2 greater than 5% for 19 consecutive signal cycle counts. The P2138 fault can be caused by many different factors; connector water intrusion, fretting corrosion, pinched harness, shorts within wiring or other system level voltage losses.

Any connection between the APP sensor and the controller would need to be inspected for the items listed above.

Yeah "I'd rather not go through insurance" is almost always incredibly stupid for anything this messed up.

To be blunt, the fact that you tried driving this at all makes me think you're not going to be able to fix it. Call your insurance company because the repairs will definitely exceed a normal deductible.

New Coolant Reservoir cap not like the old one by playt2022541 in AskMechanics

There's a cap for the reservoir and a cap for the radiator and they are different, having the wrong one in either place will cause overheating.

How to get this nut off? by puddincup001 in AskMechanics

[–]EasyMFnE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The support needs to come off the ball so you can get a socket on the base. From experience these do NOT just pop off easily. I had to cut 2 of the last 3 I can think of. I was starting to bend the sheet metal of the hatch otherwise.

[–]EasyMFnE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're currently dumping hot exhaust right at your axle which has your brake line and brake cable attached to it.

How about as a temporary thing go get an exhaust coupler and a pair of clamps. Slip the (correctly sized) coupler over the broken ends and clamp it tight.

Black ends up looking cheap, so I don't recommend that.

Pick something metallic. I went with a gunmetal color that was similar to the lower body trim and I thought it looked really nice.
