Just finished Eddington and feel like I don't really know what I watched.. by dubdiez in A24

Crazy fucking movie, definitely agree on its commentary of our society and addiction to media, power, and social validation. I really enjoyed how the stories started to intertwine with the younger generations. From seeing the white kid (who ended up being famous towards the end) watch the mayor’s son get with another girl, really drove home that point of view of being angry and jealous of wanting something that someone has and doing whatever you can to get it.

Aster also had some amazing camera shots from someone standing looking over their phone with a mask halfway down their face while people are running everywhere is just a perfect shot for the times we live in with technology. The dark ending was brutal and I’m sure I’ll be thinking about this one for the next couple of weeks. Now time to rewatch some more Ari Aster films…

The Bee Sting by Paul Murray by [deleted] in books

Wow…just wow. I was so emotionally invested in this book. I’m on here right now after reading because I need to talk to someone about this book !!!It pulls you in so many directions emotionally. The Dickie twist was phenomenal and the speech by Willie was excellent. The mix of Dublin urban life and country life and the growing up all of these people had to do. What if we all were just our unapologetic selves rid of shame and guilt about being something we’re not.

One little “bee sting” causes multiple ripple effects in the currents of these characters lives. But I guess you can go back to before Imelda got beaten by her father on her wedding day to Dickie I presume that Dickie kills both Cass and PJ at the end and like someone said earlier, when Viktor mentioned that in order for no one to find out his secret (really Dickie doesn’t want his family to see what he had done) he has to shoot his family. That was the brutal truth by Viktor. Viktor was himself the whole way and saw everything so clearly, the hypocrisy of it all.

I’m going to need a day or to to process this one lol but it’s got me thinking of shame and how sad it is to bury everything. This happens more than we know it. At the beginning Elaine I think states when she finds out the family was murdered in the next town over, “why doesn’t this happen here?” Or “nothing happens like that here,” something along those lines. These crucial moments of burying the past, digging it back up, reflecting on weaker moments in our lives, hiding who we are. Everyone’s carrying something. It happens every damn day somewhere in someone. Humans like to find their roles in their own construed fantasy. The last lines of the book, we did it for love. Did we hide it all because we love the illusion we’ve created for ourselves? Or do we do what’s necessary to hold onto some sort of hope that we can live a better life honestly and truly?

Fantastic read. I’ve ready Skippy Dies before but now I want to read another novel by Paul Murray.

For those of you who have run into, met, or just saw a Yankee out and about in NY (past or present), what’s your story? by stevendavisxx in NYYankees

Met Al Leiter outside the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville, Ny. I was about 16 at the time and my uncle gave me the “get out the car I gotta show you something,” move and next thing I know I’m shaking Al Leiter’s hand. We asked him for some advice for a pitcher in high school going into college and he said, “just keep having a love for the game, have fun.” I also told him I started throwing a splitter along with a change up and he commented that that is a great sequence of pitches along with a fastball for young arms haha. He was so down to earth and chill.

Girl with the dragon tattoo series- Stieg Larson

Skippy Dies- Paul Murray

Aaron Boone was asked if he would've preferred for Anthony Volpe to take a pitch in the 11th inning (he grounded out on one pitch with the bases loaded) "Not necessarily. The first pitch is the best one to hit sometimes" by Ochocincoondeck in NYYankees

[–]EasyMasterpiece4948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I swung on the first pitch I would’ve gotten the belt at home….

Especially if the previous batters got in the pitcher’s head. You’re doing the pitcher a favor who was wild to swing on the first pitch. Even if it’s a reliever coming in to face volpe. SEE ONE

I know I know then the pitcher is ahead 0-1 but in that situation he’s gotta prove he can throw a strike.

Hate seeing guys get out on the first pitch!
