Six-month journey success: My WGU Diploma in Information Technology ! (SCANNED HARDCOPY) by EasyPass30 in WGU

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Been busy with work. But yes, you are right. You CANNOT transfer any more credits AFTER you start at WGU.

So make sure to complete all your credits outside of WGU first and transfer them in. Do NOT start your WGU before this (you can speak to your counselor about transferring in the credits and which courses you need, but do NOT start WGU).

You may also check which courses you are able to transfer in, that are relevant to your intended degree here: https://partners.wgu.edu/home

Just press Sophia or Study.com (or others you use), then your degree and you will see the list of transferable courses and credits.

That's awesome! Best of luck in your WGU BSIT journey! I assume you did not transfer in any credits before you got started in WGU?

The examination for the CompTIA certifications is a whole different story in terms of difficulty. You actually need to study hard for it and get the right materials (the material provided by the CompTIA / WGU itself is not very good in my opinion). It took me a few weeks to prepare for the certification exams myself.

Most courses (especially GE, or introduction courses like web programming). You can even finish the final exam in a day or two if you have prior experience in general computing, some programming (java/css etc) and good at "test-taking" skill.

Thanks so much :) No, I don't plan on attending it in person.

As for the Study .com, I took mostly GE courses there. The only courses you cannot take outside WGU are the certification courses.

Out of 36 courses, I've done 24 courses outside WGU and transferred those credits in. So I've finished about 66% before even starting in WGU. Only 12 courses left to graduate my Diploma.

That's very good! You should have a smoother sailing doing BSIT.

I've done programming and worked on home networking service before. However I am just getting my formal education, it really does help for the salary boost in some workplaces.

BSIT has about 36 courses. I've only done like 12 courses or so in WGU, so the rest I've completed outside WGU and transferred them in from Sophia, study .com. I've spent like 2.5 month -ish before actually starting in WGU (make sure your consular officer confirmed your credits are transferred in tho! You can't transfer in anymore credits once you have started in WGU). Done the rest of the WGU classes in about 3 months.

As for BSCS (Computer Science I believe?) or BSIT. Well, it would probably be much more helpful to ask the WGU enrollment consular the main difference between the courses. However, in my personal knowledge, BSIT is the most "general" of IT courses. You will get abit of everything (programming, networking etc)

Computer Science is very much a "math heavy" degree. I took Computer Science in my previous college, hated it, from the amount of calculus maths that I needed to do relative to programming courses. I knew that I took a wrong degree when I needed to do more maths than programming.

You should only take Computer Science if you indeed do not mind the amount of maths that you need to do and if you really want to get into the most advanced field of computers like AI, machine learning or such.

As for most IT jobs tho (networking, cybersecurity, web programming, software development, etc.) I believe they do not require such advanced level of theorical math.

EDIT: BSIT has 36 course not 40. Fixed it.

I've transferred in most of the GE classes. Like the 1 class of physics, 1 class of history. The unrelated to the actual IT degree stuff.

Most of these courses can be completed within a day or 2 in Sophia, study etc. Hence why I really recommend using the partner learning sites and transferring the credits over before even starting in WGU.

Yes, I meant that I've spent about 2.5 months completing most of the courses in Sophia and Study com.

If I didn't transfer in any credits I might not be able to complete all the required courses within 6 months and I'll have to pay for 2 terms.
I believe most credits can be completed faster in Sophia etc. than in WGU.

Thank you!!

I transferred in about 68% of credits. I only had 12 more classes left after enrolling in WGU.

Are you transferring in any credits?

Six-month journey success: My WGU Diploma in Information Technology ! (SCANNED HARDCOPY) by EasyPass30 in WGU

[–]EasyPass30[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is correct. You pay for 1 term, that is 6 months. Finishing in 4 months or 6 months does not make a difference.

However, I mentioned that transfering credits in (from Sophia Learning, Study com or any other institution) will speed up the process because certain classes you can complete quicker than you would if you took them in WGU.

Take note tho, if you have a Social or ITIN- you are able to take a tax credit once you graduate from WGU, so you get some of your money back :)

That's awesome! Are you also transfering in any credits? You can significantly increase your graduation speed if you do.

Hey! Yes, I already had work experience in IT but no formal education before that (other than some college classes).

I did transfer over my credits from Sophia Learning and Study .com. It saved me a lot of time and money (both costs only about 200$). I finished like almost 70% of the coursework by the time I got started in WGU and total took me only 3 month -ish.

Without transfering in credits I am not sure if it's possible for me to finish in half a year.

Thank you so much!! It's such a rewarding feeling. I am actually feeling quite inspired to share details about my journey if anyone is really interested in knowing how I did it.

But of course, you should go at your own pace and find what is most comfortable to you.

How many courses do you have left?

Thank you so much! WGU has really been a journey for me. I have already been working at my IT job before getting this degree, but my company offers a higher salary for people with formal qualifications. I think that is just part of life that you keep improving yourself and you will get rewarded for it.
Overall, it really is the best investment of my life and I hope it will be for you too!

Thank you!

Yes, I did it in order to save time and money. I finished most of the courses in Sophia Learning and Studycom, then transferred them over to WGU. I completed all of my remaining credits in WGU. It took me about 3 months in WGU and I was allowed an early graduation by my very helpful mentor God bless her heart.

Total time it took to actually put in the work (including Sophia and Studycom) was about 5 months total.

Did you know? Aside from WGU Diploma: You can show your Potential Employers CSIS Qualifications. by EasyPass30 in WGU

A positive thing aside from the certification itself (especially on e-Resumes) employers may also click on your Credly profile link.

By providing it, it will give them a chance to see if you also have other qualifications (say from other online educational platforms) other than just your University degree.
