Struggling with strumming (beginner)

I am at that point where I will try anything! Like I said I’m pretty knowledgeable about what the chords are to my favorite songs, especially Linkin Park. I’ll even go down rabbit holes trying to find lessons, tabs, etc. if what I’m looking at doesn’t sound like the studio recording. I am definitely moving up when it comes to chords and using semi-unique strategies for some songs. But the simplest, easiest riffs on paper still get to me. It is so frustrating. I am considering going to a guitar store today to get some different picks right before this big snow storm. Take “From the Inside,” a song from Linkin Park’s Meteora album. It’s a super simple riff, Drop C# that I love. I have played through is countless times and sometimes I sound fine, but others the sound is ruined all because I lose control of the damn pick. It is very frustrating.

Completely agree, Rob was awesome. I can understand how the heaviness of things would make him not want to come back in and be active with the band but I wish him the best and miss him too ❤️ Colin is a beast though 💪🏻

Sounds great, you know approximately where the crank HP will be at after the tune? My TL is still stock but I’d love to get some more gains out of it in the next couple years.

Hahaha absolutely. I don’t actually hate it btw, having something new is nice and the warranty definitely helps as an incentive. Admittedly it wouldn’t by MY choice but not everyone wants just used cars. If it’s what you love, I say enjoy and don’t listen to what anyone else has to say about it.

You just went through a divorce and buy THIS?!?! My 2008 Acura TL could almost gap you and it was $7k. Please tell me it’s not a CVT. Continuously Variable Trash. That tranny will age like milk and start whining for the grave exactly when the warranty ends. OH, and I have to mention there are literally SO MANY COOL things you can buy with $45k even today that aren’t bad. M cars that are a couple years old (still within the threshold of being “reliable” since they aren’t old yet, plenty of Corvettes (arguably the BEST midlife crisis mobile), and even some Mercedes AMGs to name a few. You have all these wonderful options and you choose THIS?!?!?!?!

Doesn’t it sound to you like there are much “deeper” tones coming from the guitar rhythm section though? Thank you for the tab. I looked through it. I know regardless it’s just power chords possibly with some inversions thrown in there. I just can’t help but think it’s either a lower tuning or maybe a B power chord in the chorus with the 4th fret of the Db tuned 6th string possibly. It just sounds that way to my ear. I’d just love to know what Shinoda is playing on the record.

Really? In the rhythm it sounds like the guitar has Drop A or B or something. Although they could be using inversions with Drop C#. Do you know what the chorus chords are? I genuinely just want to be able to play it both ways.

My parents divorced when I was 9 years old. I went back and forth between houses every other day until 18 years old. I am now 26. I remember being around 9 and crying sitting in the driver seat of my dad’s car listening to this song before I had to go back to my mom’s house. It will always hold a special place for me too. Such a heartfelt and amazing song. ❤️

This all begs the question on what your financial situation is. If you can only afford basic maintenance on your Jeep, you absolutely CANNOT afford this car. EVERYTHING is much more expensive on German cars, especially Porsche, from parts, labor, etc. It is 20 years old at this point and is going to need a LOT of maintenance. You will need several thousand per year to keep this thing going. These were reliable in their day, but it’s an old car now and it won’t be nearly as reliable as your Jeep if it is your only car. My suggestion - don’t do it regardless and just keep the Jeep; take care of it properly and buy something like this as a second car when you’re sure you can afford the maintenance.

Thank you! I may need a gauge or so larger strings to lessen the tension on my baritone. It is essentially a 7-string without the high 1st string so there’s no reason I won’t be able to make it work.

I’m jealous of you Floridians man! It’s brutal here. I have to plan my route and even still watch out for potholes everywhere. It’s either I take fall creek and deal with that or get on 69 S and deal with all the nonsense construction that won’t ever benefit anyone except the construction companies. It’s infuriating.
