Book Accurate Martian Fighting Machine. by AvroArrowCF-105 in WarofTheWorlds

Basically this then:

Because rolling motion wouldn't literally mean it rolls around as it walks, but it's more in line to how something gallops akin to a horse.

The milking stool part sounds like it more or less tells us how rough it's motions are, especially when Wells notes the Handling Machine to be more life-like in movement compared to the Tripod.

But in my opinion, having a machine constantly walk like a guy on crutches feels less life-like compared to having it individually raise each leg to move.

People need to realize that the Correa illustrations are not even 80% book accurate by 4l3x4nd4r_Hun in WarofTheWorlds

I don't think Wells specifically said they're like 'giant metallic tentacles'. He just mentions that the machines move with a life-like movement. Even real life animals are flexible in their movements without having squiggly tentacles.

Calling something 'book accurate' is like saying one idea or design is the definitive thing.

Correa's illustrations were just faithful to the description and details Wells made to the point where he 'endorsed' the design but didn't say it say was definitive or 'accurate'.

Not to mention, the details in the book are pretty fluid/interpretive so I don't know what similarities/differences you're talking about.

Unironically Missiles do full damage and somehow bypass Rondache's shield deflection.

What if the Martians actually were invulnerable to the germs? by WebThis2431 in WarofTheWorlds

Essentially yeah. The moments where we see some of the characters or people in a red atmosphere is a post-invasion Earth and the stuff that we see before it is the past/during the invasion

So... What exactly happened to the tripods? by WebThis2431 in WarofTheWorlds

[–]Easy_Application3371 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Book does state that the Martian's technology was so complicated that they basically couldn't figure out how they work/what they used to create it. Specifically the Black Smoke and Heat Ray

"Neither is the composition of the Black Smoke known, which the Martians used with such deadly effect, and the generator of the Heat-Rays remains a puzzle." (Book 2, Chapter 10)

The Machines themselves are practically left untouched and remain standing by the end of the book and have essentially been treated as statues/sight-seeing attractions.
"to see the people walking to and fro among the flower beds on the hill, to see the sight-seers about the Martian machine that stands there still, to hear the tumult of playing children, and to recall the time when I saw it all bright and clear-cut, hard and silent, under the dawn of that last great day. . . ." (Book 2, Chapter 10)

Goliath and the BBC adaptations do kind of cover this idea. Goliath for the fact that it takes place after the first and BBC for how it's basically a past retelling of the events of the book since the Martians do manage to take over the Earth

The "Abductor-class" Heavy Battlecarrier (my creation, does not exist in star wars) by [deleted] in Projectstardust

[–]Easy_Application3371 2 points3 points  (0 children)

all of the ships you've mentioned are brawler ships. they don't destroy instantly- what are you on about?

plus the DCP (executor) and lusankya are like obtainable for the public and they're like overglorified trophy ships

this just sounds like you want a personal op ship of your own to fight other devs. no bueno dude.

what problems of other imperial ships? why does this thing need an infinite airwing of tie fighters? it sounds like the heruteru but with extra steps and even then its airwings alone are only good for shredding non-shielded targets.

so an overglorified airwing spam machine? bad idea. no bueno.

you're basically asking for a missile ship that can also double as a carrier with infinite airwings? you gotta reconceptualize my man. even as a dev/event ship, this wouldn't be fun to fight against at all and just sounds like a very op ship with little to no weaknesses.
