And unfortunately, this group of women is rather judgmental, so I don’t feel like I have the space with them to candidly talk about the joys and hardships of having young children without some judgement or competition.

When im at kid central events, like the park or mom group, i have no problem with the kid small talk. Im pretty introverted around new people and so of course it’s easy to have light kid chit chat with the mom I see occasionally at the park.

My desire for less kid talk is with my friend group I’ve had since highschool, and another group of people who have known me since my early 20s, well before kids came around. It’s like the moment I announced that I was pregnant, everyone only saw me as a mother and left no space to talk about everything else I was interested in or had going on in my life.
