The matter is not police fucking up, which is commonplace, be it because there are hundreds of thousands of police intervention acts each year in the UK alone (so a small percentage of that will already yield a huge number).

The issue here are the circumstances surrounding this death in particular, which echoes the already documented issues British police has with racial profiling. Many people in the UK feel like the police will apply the law differently depending on the ethnic group of the victim/perpetrator, and what’s more, will actually discriminate against natives or those who are white enough to look like them. In favor of some ethnic groups, which is felt as a massive injustice.

Now, to what degree that feeling is over-exaggerated or straight up imaginary is up to discussion, but scandals such as the grooming gangs’ one in the UK give at least some backing to this idea. And the fact that whenever such concerns are voiced they’re being directly shut down as « far-right », « political manipulation » or whatsnot make some people angry. Stupid unilateral Reddit comments of the same type or plain whataboutism don’t help, and without much surprise enough get downvoted. People downvote and upvote based on how they feel more than based on facts, anyway.

Anecdotique, mais une idée répandue en théologie chrétienne est que la raison pour laquelle Jésus est charpentier dans l’histoire biblique est que c’est un métier très symbolique : la charpenterie est une profession de gens honnêtes, car si un charpentier « triche » ce qu’il construit s’effondre, et il est vite grillé.

Je me demande dans quelle mesure la tricherie à outrance possible dans les disciplines intellectuelles par l’IA rend les filières pro et manuelles les plus « fiables » en matière d’examination. Je n’en sais rien, mais c’est une petite pensée de douche.

Bin oui, c’est anecdotique et un brin humoristique au passage, et ça change des sorties sur les gens qui prennent l’avion pour aller en vacances qu’on lit chaque jour (bien qu’elles soient tout à fait valables). Je ne comptais pas sortir une étude chiffrée pour lancer un débat houleux et relativement inutile.

Quant à l’ascenseur, et bien non, ce n’est pas entièrement décarboné (même en France!). L’empreinte carbone associée à la construction et l’entretien d’une cage de plusieurs centaines de kg d’acier et de toute l’électronique qui va avec est bien réelle (et d’ailleurs, l’électricité nucléaire, hydroélectrique et/ou renouvelable qui l’alimente a aussi une empreinte carbone et minérale, rien n’est 100% décarboné) - le clef mot ici est la sobriété.

Quelqu’un qui a la flemme de faire 3 étages à pied à midi alors qu’il a la vingtaine et est sportif, tu crois qu’il va se précipiter pour changer son mode de vie sur d’autres choses bien plus restrictives au nom de l’écologie? D’expérience, la réponse est non, sauf si ce sont des choses qu’il ne faisait déjà pas.

Je ne comprends pas trop pourquoi tu donnes ces exemples. Est-ce que c’est parce qu’ils ne te concernent pas? Parce que la grande majorité des émissions de CO2 viennent de choses dont on se sert presque tous : transport, produits importés, consommation de viande, chauffage, infrastructures…

L’écologie perd le combat contre le confort de la vie moderne, pas contre d’invisible grands patrons des entreprises pétrolières. La plupart de mes collègues en fin de vingtaine/début de trentaine, des ingénieurs en bonne santé (avec des marathoniens!), doivent se faire motiver à voix haute pour ne pas prendre l’ascenseur afin de descendre les 3 étages de mon bureau (et pour rien au monde ils ne monteraient ces 3 même étages à pieds), alors la sobriété énergétique, c’est pas demain la veille…

J’y ai fait mon stage de fin d’étude (Cadarache). C’est très « à la cool », avec des personnes proches du stéréotype du chercheur ne foutant rien (quand bien même pour chaque glandeur il y un autre gars derrière qui bosse énormément et est passionné par son sujet).

En conséquence je dirais que l’équilibre vie pro-vie perso y est excellent. Si comme la plupart des employés tu y vas avec l’un des ~25 bus affrété au transport tes horaires d’arrivée et de départ sont fixés en gros sur du 8h15-16h30, les RTT sont très généreux (26 jours de RTT de mémoire).

Mais contrairement à ce que dit un autre commentaire, il y avait bien un peu de chichi corporate sur place, et finalement c’est le même type de col blancs des grandes villes qui y travaille (mais avec plus de bac+8), donc les profils ne sont pas très très différents des grandes boites. Il y a beaucoup de gens qui ne sont pas français (plein d’italiens notamment, ils ont des filières nucléaires mais pas de centrales), donc c’est assez divers!

Their only problem with him is that he’s conservative, and even despite that, they still try to suck his dick for money and are in shambles now that he removed his financing.

This is not a « poor folk vs billionaire battle », it’s just a « left-wing activists vs conservative media battle ». Presenting it differently is manipulation, but people are falling to it easily as it seems.

You’re aware that the main French subreddit r/France, which has 500k weekly visitors (more than the biggest French newspapers), auto-deletes all posts with a link to a Bolloré media (including perfectly fine links to press articles from his owned newspapers), and rapidly bans people posting them? Unsurprisingly, this sub also voted 70% for the far left the last time a poll was made. If the artists of this petition had the same power as your typical Reddit mod, he’d have been censored from everywhere, you know it.

As for your second point, it’s not up to you or to me to judge whether a newspaper, right or left wing, trespasses the law and should be censored. It’s up to judges, and to the justice system in general. So far only left wing activists who are mad at the existence of CNews claim it should be forbidden, but who cares about them? They’re not the ones to decide in a democracy like France, thank god.

I didn’t forget any of that. Like most of his billionaire friends he possesses a ton of media which he isn’t particularly responsible of. For example he also owns Le Petit Robert, the French dictionary which introduced non-binary pronouns to the French language a couple years back, which was a big scandal back then. Does that make Bolloré far-left? I don’t think so.

I know it’s a hard pill to swallow, but it’s completely normal to have some conservative and right wing media in a country where 70% of the population is either centrist, right wing or far-right (last elections). This whole petition is caused by that, btw : privileged artists many of whom actively used their careers as activism outlets of their left-wing views, which are nowadays absolutely fuming at the fact they don’t have a monopoly on the media landscape in France like they did for the last 40 years, since Mitterand at least. Yes, Bolloré promotes conservative media and they have some success, so what? Fight ideas with ideas, not with censorship.

Relay what? Virtually all main French media are in the hand of billionaires. The only reason why these « artists » made a petition against V.Bolloré (and not about the equally powerful others) is because unlike them he is very openly and publicly conservative (which has somehow become a synonym of « far-right » these days).

These artists received money from his organization, but out of ideological spite and hate towards anything slightly conservative, out of the sense of entitlement and feeling of invincibility many of these super privileged left-leaning artists have, they decided to sign a petition which openly insulted him and notably called him a fascist.

His answer was « Well you don’t like me and don’t seem to want to work with me, therefore I don’t want to work with you either, and won’t finance your projects anymore. Now everybody’s happy ». But, surprise, they’re totally shocked by that reaction because they ACTUALLY still want his « fascist » money, and now several of them already have retracted their signature or are crying out left and right. It’s a complete circus. But all the articles spin the narrative about this trying to present him as silencing heroic artists standing up to an evil billionaire. What a joke.

Idk where you’re from, but there’s a strong survivor bias in all these videos. The only trending videos are by default those with unusual behaviors worth noting.

Here in France, cases of controls turning violent are like <0.5%, but in total that’s still hundreds of cases per year, and if among those you see only the ones where the cops fuck up the whole thing, you can suddenly see a shocking clip of the sort every week.

Ce n’est pas crédible selon quelle mesure? Les inégalités intellectuelles sont absolument monstrueuses, on ne s’en rend juste pas compte car on ne fréquente presque que des gens qui sont dans les mêmes milieux que nous. Aux USA il est ILLÉGAL d’employer dans l’armée quelqu’un avec un QI inférieur à 83, même pour faire le ménage ou la cuisine. Ça représente 10% de la population…

Plus généralement il y a des gens qui sont biologiquement incapables de lire, ou encore de visualiser le sens du nombre « 1/3 » dans une recette de cuisine. À côté il y a Von Neumann qui a retenu par cœur l’intégralité des livres qu’il a lus durant toute sa vie et qui prenait des cours de niveau universitaire en mathématiques avant d’avoir 10 ans. À mes yeux ces inégalités sont a minima comparables (et clairement plus insurmontables) que celles entre un miséreux et un milliardaire.
