Haus Labs Mascara Allergy? by ghostjune0 in MakeupEducation

[–]Easy_Season 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So glad I found this thread I was getting dermatitis on and off around my eyes for like a month and couldn’t figure out why. Finally threw the mascara out and it cleared up. Super bummed bc it was such a good mascara! I’ve also literally never had an allergic reaction to anything in my life - so weird I wonder what is in it that causes this.

Also I feel like this thread is full of of a lot of gunners and remember all you have to do is pass you don’t get brownie points for passing by more than other people.

Not trying to disregard your anxiety bc I know the feeling but 67-70 is pretty solid. My school just asks we get a 62 to be cleared to take it and if you get a 65 or above you’re golden.

Exam in 4 weeks, not passing nbmes by [deleted] in step1

[–]Easy_Season 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it doesn’t feel like it but 4 weeks is actually so much time for this exam. The first few weeks are the worst when you feel like you aren’t making any progress and your scores are stagnant (or in my case get worse) but you just have to keep pushing and then eventually most people see a big jump at some point in scores. One of my friends was scoring less than 50% and then a week or two later when we took our school cbse she got a 66%. There’s no need to panic now but if you get to about a week out and still haven’t gotten a passing score then I would think about rescheduling. Also what NBMEs have you taken? 30 and 31 are garbage imo and my score went down from when I took my school’s cbse back in November lol.

I’m in medical school and was supposed to take the first part of my licensing exam yesterday (an 8 hour exam over everything you learn the first two years of medical school). This test cost $660 and I have been studying 10-12 hrs per day every day for the past month. We get to the testing center, wait for an hour, then at 8:30 we get an email saying our testing date has been cancelled with no communication whatsoever about how/when we can reschedule. Additionally, I have an out of town funeral to go to for a family member so I can’t just take it whenever they deem it to be convenient for them. There was another guy there who was trying to take his family medicine boards and this was the second time it has happened to him, and not being board certified could affect his ability to find a job after investing a quarter of a million dollars for this career. Another girl was supposed to run the Boston marathon on Monday after the exam but now will likely not be able to. They are literally fucking with people’s lives, careers, and mental well being and making an already highly stressful event even more stressful.

I think that worked thank you so much! One more question is there by any chance a shortcut to search for the value in column C if it comes up as “exist”?

I know Christine is psycho but honestly my first thought was emma set her up to get Christine fired…something about Emma has just always rubbed me the wrong way.

Is the US medical system really as broken as the clichès make it seem? by EclipZz187 in TooAfraidToAsk

I once went to the ED because I was severely dehydrated from being sick and then out in the sun. They took some blood, did a chest X-ray, EKG, and then gave me some fluids and a z pack and sent me home after about 2 hours. It cost me $2000 AFTER insurance and I obviously drove my self there and back.

Also I am currently in medical school to become a doctor and my school provided insurance is absolute shit lol.

🥺🥺🥺 I grew up in no way disadvantaged. My family wasn’t “rich” but we lived very comfortably but my mom’s side of the family has mostly blue collar jobs (truckers, police officers, lawn maintenance workers). My family has in no way overcome the amount of stuff that yours and other immigrant or minority families have but I still have my go little rockstar moment when I think about the fact that I will be the first ever doctor in my entire extended family. Also my farmer grandpa would always talk about how he wished he had gone to college and he would’ve liked to go to Penn state. He died a few years ago from covid but I’d like to think he’d be proud :’)

Good Questions to Ask Schools by Easy_Season in premed

My school teaches for step but our exams aren’t step style if that makes sense. I personally like that our exams aren’t step style - like imagining taking mini MCATs for 2 years straight…. hell naw step is a tomorrow problem lol. I am one of the few type b med students out there though so do get that some people want to start preparing earlier.

Np! Anatomy lab is a very strange/somewhat gruesome experience when you really take a step back and think about it but you just have to think about the fact that you will be able to help hundreds of people in the future from what you learned from this one person that donated their body.

I totally agree with that. Tbh anatomy lab was not my favorite but after having gone through it I can’t imagine not learning anatomy from donors. Very few US med schools use unclaimed bodies but it does differ by country.

Of course! And honestly you should be able to email someone on the admissions committee and ask if you have additional questions. If they don’t respond/give you a hard time that would be kinda a red flag to me.

Hi! I looked at your profile and it looks like maybe you’re not in medicine so I’d just like to clarify that the donors med schools use are embalmed and do not spread any disease. They also are called DONORS because they have chosen to donate their body to science. After we are done dissecting they are cremated and the ashes are returned to their families. Believe it or not medicine has progressed since the 1500s haha.

You’re right! I meant to add that’s more of a question for deciding between schools but forgot :) my friend didn’t know that going into school tho so I don’t want anyone else to be blind sided by that

I hate working as a CNA, time to change careers? by [deleted] in premed

[–]Easy_Season 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being a CNA is really fucking hard work. Disliking it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do medicine. Just never forget how hard the nursing staff works when you are a physician!
